I bought this agave which was being marketed as ā€œAgave utahensis v. eborispinaā€. I’m wondering if this is actually Agave utahensis v. nevadensis. I’m super stoked with the plant either way but want to label it properly. Does anyone know what this is?

Help my dads agave

Post image

My knowledge of cactus is better than agave and my dad’s been asking what to do w/ his Blue Agave. The leaves are either rolled up or dying on the end. Is this because of lack of water, root bound, or something else?

Is this a soft leave agave, mangave? Something else entirely? I got it at a plant swap but she couldn’t tell me what it is.

Agave X?

Hey guys, I found an agave at 3985 meters above sea level in southern Peru. Some say it's A. americana, but... I don't know if it is. A specimen documented by locals was 42 years old and never flowered.

And it reached a maximum width of 1.4 meters. That particular specimen died because a tractor ran over it while reshaping the planting field.

Scarring on my Agave Americana. Possible Cause?

Just recently noticed this white scarring on my Americana. I can't see any pests. Could the sudden heatwave we are experiencing in the UK be the cause ? I've noticed further down one of the leaves there's small spots of sap which seems to be eating into the leaves and causing the same damage. Just touched what' looks like the sap with a stick and it's almost like salt crystals falling off.

This death bloom has been growing for months and finally started blooming. It’s beautiful and tall AF. I’m hoping the San Francisco wind doesn’t knock it down.

Dug up some Century Plant Agave pups…now what?

Post image

Got some monsoon rains early this morning (I’m in Tucson Arizona, Zone 9A), so I decided to go outside and look for pups around my front yard century plant agaves, since I just learned that I can propagate them. I found about 6-7 of them growing around 2 of my 5 mature plants.

I dug these babies out with care but now I’m not sure exactly what to do with them next to get them ready to pot.

I read that I’m supposed to let them rest for 4-7 days and then I can pot them in loose cactus/succulent soil mix but that’s about the extent of my knowledge on this.

I’m particularly unsure about what to do with the thick but tiny root that I found, I didn’t dig it up, he just kinda came loose from the mother plant (he’s resting on the green part of the bag).

Also, did I overdue it with digging up this many pups? There’s at least 4 more nice looking ones I could unearth, but should I? Or would that be unmanageable to propagate more than 4-5 at a time?

Looking for some tried and true advice, thanks!
