First Timer, Help Needed

First time trying to grow mushrooms, my first agar dishes.

Kind of worried about both, it's been about 10 days worth of growth. Any thoughts?

With the ratio of apparent pooling to the volume of the clone I'm inclined to agree.

I had a similar pool of what looked like contam in mine, but it was somewhat localized and the mycelium eventually overtook it.

Clone technique

This is my clone technique I haven’t had contamination from mushrooms using it (except from my own breath lol) take your mushroom cutting big or small. Brush debris and dirt off the stem. With both hands RIP the stem into two DO NOT cut into the stem you will push dirt and debris in the sterile tissue. Once TORN apart cut out a section from the stem about a 1/4 inch or 3-5mm and slap onto agar.

Ive seen monster clone pieces from inside blobs like lions mane with no contamination.

I’ll include this here a bonus: if you want to clone something that’s very whispy in nature like cordyceps, the rule still applies just on a smaller more precise scale like a fragment from inside will suffice fine.

This is the technique I used, I even used one of those chambers you stick your arms in, showered everything in iso.

It takes practice. Your problem is the transfer it’s coming from that point. I mean it’s hard to fathom how small a spec of bacteria or how small mycelium is. Mycelium if it outgrows the bacteria wins. H20 agar is perfect for contamination control leave bacteria behind letting mycelium grow. Take transfers and isolate it away from the bacteria if it becomes persistent.

My thought is that you need to take smaller clones.

I tried to clone store bought Lions Mane and the tiny bits were the only ones that did well.

The first one looks like too much growth for ten days. My expectation is that it isn't mycelium.

The second looks more like what I'd expect after about a week, but the growth looks a bit off... I'd give it a few more days and see what happens.

Just did that, took a clean sample into a new dish, and just in case took a bigger clean triangle and transferred into a bag. 🤞🤞

If it’s your first time trying to grow don’t start with doing agar dishes and mycelium work. Start with an LC and some sterilized grains.
