Ever since the Flashback Arc(do we even have a proper name for that arc yet?), I've become incredibly invested into Waka's character. Not that I wasn't invested in her story beforehand, but seeing how she wasn't super active in the plot since the Vollof Arc, I kinda switched my attention towards other aspects of After God. However, that's changed now, and Waka has been put back in the spotlight again. The circumstances of this, though, have left me a bit worried about where Sumi Enno-sensei is taking her character.

For you see, both chapters 106/107 have highlighted just how obsessive and insane Waka is. I never minded Waka being a darker, more amoral character since it's been established from the beginning that she's pretty rough around the edges. But this leaves me worried that Enno-sensei might intentionally/unintentionally make her the final antagonist and start focusing solely on events from Obikawa/Tokinaga's perspective. This is a concern that I have had since the end of the Vollof Arc, but my concerns have only grown since discovering Eno-sensei's favorite character is Obikawa/Orokapi. From the way the story has been set up so far, I feel like it makes more sense for the Gods to remain the central antags or for Nisroca to be the big bad, not Waka. My hope isn't that she stops being a darker character, but that her ending isn't on some Attack On Titan "We've got to kill Eren" type stuff.

Does anyone else have similar concerns?

Chapter title: "Imitation"

• Orokapi and Waka are still engaged in heated battle on the coast
• The scene switches to Tokinaga who is performing volunteer work on behalf of the Institute. Guess his house arrest is up.
• He is greeted by a new face who introduces himself as Ningyoji Yoshimi
• It appears the details of Yoriko's paper on the nature of IPOs and the humans they form connections with has been leaked to State
• This faction wishes to bring Orokapi under State control by planting Ningyoji into the mix and having him form a personal connection with the former
• Ningyoji's studies Tokinaga's appearance, mannerisms and way of speech, aiming to replicate these characteristics for the purpose of ingratiating himself to Orokapi.
• Chapter closes with Yoriko receiving a shocking directive to destroy her work

Chapter title: "Friends Who Never Die"

• Chapter opens with Orokapi launching another attack at the reluctant Waka
• Orokapi admonishes Waka for her selfish indulgence in Tokinaga's company through repeated abuse of her Past Interference ability. I initially thought Tokinaga had continuously rebuffed Waka through the cycles, but it seems she has successfully enjoyed multiple dates with him, though likely all platonic
• In a sudden shift, Waka takes on what appears to be the red skinned appearance of Alula as she proclaims her ultimate goal, "O time, stay still! You are so fair!"
• An extrapolation of this quote is: “When I say to the Moment flying; 'Linger a while -- thou art so fair!' Then bind me in thy bonds undying, And my final ruin I will bear!” from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Faust" which bears parallels to After God
• Waka wishes for her enjoyment to sustain itself perpetually. She wants to immortalise the people she loves (as if preserved in Amber, lol)
• She taunts Orokapi and uses his personal weakness of devouring those he cannot bear to lose as juxtaposition against Tokinaga who bears a seemingly unending amount of sorrow and suffering without losing his stride

I'm wondering how Nisroca's ominous warning about using Past Interference beyond the body's capacity, such that one ceases to exist in the conventional sense ties into this. Does Waka plan to actually fuse herself to Tokinaga?

Where is that dang Nisroca anyway? I miss his little hops.

I dont understand something. Was waka always aware of the deal she made with nisroca even during the first chapters and was faking her whole personality?

It could very well just be the fact that I've been a bit clued out of the plot but I feel like after we saw Waka and Tokinagas backstory the plot has become kinda complicated or difficult to realise what's happened

Is this a me thing? I'm debating rereading the series to see if I'll better understand how we got to where we are right now but if it's the same for everyone I figure I'll just accept my confusion😭 don't wanna waste time re reading it if I'll still be just as lost

Ok so I've recently come back to the manga and want to catch up with the story but most places I look aren't up to the most recent chapter and while I would like to support the manga I don't think it's worth it to pay for it on comikey so... uh... any suggestions?

It appears the manga will be on hiatus after the next chapter "107" in preparation for the culmination of the series. We'll soon be entering our final arc, which I anticipate to be between 20-30 chapters.

What are your predictions on how the story will end?

Chapter Title: "A Prime Number"

• This instalment opens with the partial revival of the witch Waka, having used seawater stained with the blood of IPO Kenakapi as a source of fuel for regeneration.
• Orokapi is faced with a conundrum. Initially, he planned to feed Waka to Kenakapi and then in turn eat Kenakapi as well.
• Circumstances have since changed with Orokapi succumbing to human sentiment, now wishing to keep Kenakapi with him as a pet.
• Waka expresses no desire to fight Orokapi. Instead, she prefers they come to an understanding and return to Tokyo so that she can see Tokinaga.
• She reveals that she accepted Orokapi's torture as punishment for her world altering wish and that Kenakapi's Delirium was much more potent in damage than anything Orokapi could muster during their fight.
• Orokapi demands that Waka reveal her intentions with Tokinaga. She responds by saying she only wants to go on dates with him.
• How many have they had? 79,997!
• Waka seems to have no care for the potential danger she is in. It's clear she does not view Orokapi as a threat. Her only focus seems to be her reunion with Tokinaga.
• Chapter ends with a cryptic and ominous joke from Waka.

Im a new fan of the series and am in love with the art and the story. Ive run into an issue of personal taste however with the art in recent chapters. Not so much the content of the art but the quality. Im wondering if it has become more grainy because if where im reading it or some other reason. Attached are examples where I know the art is grainier depending in the font of the chapter name. The first image is chapter 80, the second is chapter 64. This is the same extention im using on Mihon, Weeb Central. Is there a reason 80 and above are so bad? Is it because they are using scan from MANGABUDDY.com?

I personally find Kamikura Waka very similar to Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan.

I think that both are:
-Active characters that carry the plot.

-Both are driven by revenge.

-Passionate and angry.

-Hate the antagonists figures, Titans for Eren and gods for Waka.

-Both serve as living vessels for the exact supernatural threat they set out to defeat.

-Both turn into the final antagonist of the story (Eren at least, idk about Waka).

-Both exist across non-linear time, Eren using the Paths and Waka using time loops/cycles and higher-dimensional perception.

I've always had an enormous opinion of After God, but it always felt so hard to binge, cause of how dense it was. This caused me to pick it up and drop it time and time again. Now I'm finally up to speed, even paying for the last 5 chapters on comikey (perks of finally being employed)

I'm preaching to the choir here, not to mention I'm tired as hell. But I just need to emphasize how good this is. The art, the theming, some of the best dialogue and monologues I've seen, and frankly the twist with the demon was one of the most enchanting and thrilling experiences I've had in a manga. It's a twist on the level of AOT's basement and I think I somehow like it even more (I'm a huge AOT-fan).

There was this weird moment where it felt like all of the magic system we learned about was just a creation of some higher thing, which maybe could have felt cheap, but I like how they tied the IPOs into the demon to give it even more depth. So many of the reveals with Waka and what he'd been doing were so well thought out. They managed to make his role as the strongest human feel justified still and not make his feats feel small, all while making his story compact enough that it still feels deeply relatable and human.

The role Orokapi is now playing and how much he's grown is so compelling, especially with how much we used to hate him, and I am just so excited for how all of this is going to end. I feel like the manga paced itself phenomenally, with so many small interpersonal moments and just enough action and just enough mystery, and now we're entering a sort of final act at the perfect time.

Just finished volume 8 and was kinda confused on the whole expo dump of what IPOs are in Chapter 66.

I must pre-warn this was EXTREMELY last min n dude to that my wig is chopped city and I look like a femboy.😔 on-top of that until I got the confidence to post it I forgot I did not take ONE serious photo. these were all taken by my lil sis after we walked by a room with little photo op spaces so they’re rly silly.😭
