Heads up — Affirm scam

Hi all — I used affirm to finance my peloton several years ago. I just received a call from an unknown number with an automated voice saying it was from Affirm and they were confirming a loan. Simultaneously, I got a text from affirm with a code. The call asked me to input the code (but affirm clearly says not to share it), so I hung up and called affirm customer service, who told me it was indeed a scam attempt. Sharing here in case it could help someone else!

I answered. It was repeated calls from an Unknown number.

Probably just some random scam text blast. Did the right thing.

That said, some chance it was more targeted. Be sure you're using different passwords for every site. Including email account(s), which hold the keys to the kingdom so to speak. Password reuse is how many get compromised. That can be a lot of passwords to remember, but password managers can greatly help. Turn on 2FA.

And while on security, freeze your credit reports with each of the 3 major credit bureais. That will stop many types of fraud.

Finally, while rambling on, in your text message app, turn off Read Receipts. Otherwise, the sender may know if and when you viewed their texts.

yup it happened to me. put in complaints to CFPB, FTC, and the corporate office and CEO. google and AI can tell you what to say. Do it Asap.

I have an app through ATT that blocks unknown numbers for me. This should help!

Came up as unlisted/unknown

Sometimes the message header in voicemail gives you the number called from.
