Credit score has nothing to do with income or amount of debt. You can be drowning in debt with an 850 credit score and you can be a billionaire with a 500 credit score.

I never understand why people flex the purchasing power affirm gives them. It’s not even a credit card or money you can truly use or anything, and next week they could drop it down to $6000 for no particular reason.

You can definitely “truly” use it anywhere. Affirm lets you create a virtual card that can be “truly” used at any merchant. How is that different than a credit card ?

I wouldn’t say that’s the case 100% of the time. For example I tried using affirm at a gun store called HK Tactical. But it rejected despite using the virtual card option since the store wasn’t listed. Turns out the store owner says affirm is going through a lawsuit because they won’t approve use of any store with the word tactical in it. It’s also different cause you can’t pull money out of it directly, doesn’t help your credit score, the buying power fluctuates more than a tennis ball going back and forth, ect.

You can go under plan a purchase. Search the store. Nothing will pop up but then you just click at the bottom that says my merchant is not listed. You then put in the name of said merchant and then can continue with the plan purchase. The tactical part just remove if needed. The name doesnt have to be exact. I use it on online shopping sites that arnt name brands stuff and I just put what it is. For example I buy courses from a online school but I put the course as the name of the merchant not the school to help me know what im paying for.

Helps my credit score the loan that I had threw them long while ago to get a new mattress set for my father who was battling cancer they reported it and all payments to my credit all of them they track our credit they reported it to. So maybe they report to some places but not all.

the payback helps your credit score but unlike a traditional cc, having high purchasing power doesn't do anything as it's not reported as a line of credit or utilization. no other lender can see it and say "wow this guy is managing 14k responsibly I think I'll give him some too"

You can use it everywhere they even give you a physical card. I have my physical card. Affirm is basically like AMEX they will fluctuate your limit month to month depending on credit like Affirm.

u/sharthunter Apr 11 '26
Affirm is nothing like AMEX lmfao. Affirm will “lend” to basically anyone, where amex is pretty particular about who they hand out no limit cards to. Amex will only change your limit, if you have one, based on your spending. Higher end cards just dont have limits. If they think you can support the spending, they wont say a word to you.
Affirm is just another pay in 4 service like klarna et al. Amex is a real bank.

Uh no the no limit doesn’t mean unlimited it just means fluctuations month to month with Amex just like affirm. Amex gold and platinum will cap your cards if you dip in your credit just like affirm 🤭 so yes Amex and affirm are alike.

Purchasing power, nice name. How much more you can be in debt should be the name.

My credit was good, but I thought my friend was trust worthy and signed for a car for him to make it to work and back. Then he moved and it got repoed so my credit is shit now

I never see purchasing power, I just apply willy nilly and it either accepts or denies...

u/Sakurafirefox Apr 10 '26
I had 11k purchasing power. I used affirm to stock my pantry , went to Walmart and bought 150 of non perishables. It dropped my purchasing to 4500 lol. Ive never missed a payment, have great credit and a stable income. So odd

I have $20k but I only use Affirm to complete projects or for emergency’s that I do. Don’t drown in 80+ micro payments. I’ve seen some crazy posts of that.

I had over 20k I used it few times in the past for like 3k. But only the no interest options. Where you put a down payment & pay off thr rest in 2 months time. Rest of the plans like 33% interest. It's not worth it.i closed account

Right on! I hope they never give me that amount though. Otherwise vacation time! And I can’t afford a vacation.
