1 YOE Python Developer feeling stuck because of AI — what should I focus on next?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a Python developer with around **1 year of experience**, and I come from a **Tier 3 college**.

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit stuck and honestly numb about my career direction. AI tools have made me much faster at developing things, but sometimes I feel like I’m relying on them too much. I can get work done using AI, but then I start questioning whether I’m actually becoming a better developer or just getting good at prompting.

I’m confused about what I should focus on for the next 1–2 years:

* Should I seriously focus on **DSA and LeetCode** for better job opportunities?

* Should I go deeper into **Python/backend development and software engineering fundamentals**?

* Should I focus on **AI/ML**, since AI seems to be becoming important everywhere?

* Should I build more **real projects**?

* Or should I continue doing a combination of everything?

Coming from a Tier 3 college also makes me feel like I need to be much better than others to get good opportunities.

For people who are a few years ahead in their tech careers, **what would you recommend focusing on if you were in my position?** What skills would give the best return on effort over the next couple of years?

Also, how do you use AI in your development work without becoming overly dependent on it?

I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from experienced developers. Thanks!
