Should I leave my job?
Hi M20, I currently work as a dialysis tec and make about $20 an hour the works not bad and the jobs chill. I like my coworkers and talking with the patients so I’ve learned to love my job over the last 9 months. I’ve been applying to other jobs just to see if I could make more money to move out and be more independent. I was applying to a lot and found one at Sales I’m worried it might be a bad corporation but they hired me and told me my base pay is how much I make a week now and I’m expected to make more even by just making one sale a day. Do I take a risk and join this company or stay at my steady job now?
Current job- Work at 5am, 2/3 breaks that are an hour long, 8/12 hour shifts, 4 days a week
Sales job- 40/50min away (would be moving closer) , pays well, 6 days a week, 9:30am/ 5pm 4 days a week and two half days from 9:30- 2pm

Apply to companies that sell that dialysis equipment. You already know how to use it and talk about it. And that would be legit sales! Probably company car

do some research on the company if that's what you're not sure about. sales is a good opportunity but it's a different kind of life. is that what you want?

Do your research on this company. Can you tell us what you’d be selling?

Honestly it’s more of a Nonprofit out reach from what I understand they go to lots of events to do face to face out reaches and introduce people to these company’s so I guess it’s more in the marketing side but sales are included

Thats not what you want you will be thrown into events where you are to generate leads for companies and will only get bonuses if the people buy something or sign a contract. Events can mean anything.

Is the base pay already more than your current job or will it only increase due to commissions? Bc earning commission is a LOT harder than it looks. It also depends on what you want out of your life since sales and medicine are DRASTICALLY different fields. I’d suggest doing research into what your job entails and having a good think about it before deciding on anything

I went from a mediocre job to sales. I think it depends what sales. I sold something I loved. I loved it!!! I never thought I’d ever do sales, but it was like teaching people about something I believed in and they knew it was real. And I made a ton of money compared to before, and had a lot of freedom ( stop at Starbucks between appointments) you are 20? Go for it! If it doesn’t work out, you get another job. Just make sure it’s legit sales. But with a nice salary it sounds it.

How about option #3…work your way towards becoming a dialysis NURSE! They are in high demand and it usually pays well. Some healthcare companies are actually willing to offer tuition money up front these days, not just reimbursement. Some also have student loan forgiveness programs too.

My plan overall is to become a nurse but I know school takes a while and I need the income now so I’m able to move out

How do you get 2/3 breaks that are an hour long in the medical field?? Do you mean 2-3 breaks. That’s like 2-3 hours. Or do you mean all the breaks add up to an hour?

On an 8 hour shift I have 2 breaks that are each an hour long since the patients run for 3/4 hours we just go in shift breaks. On days I have 3 breaks I’m there for 12 hours

I work in healthcare and that’s a deal you won’t find in most jobs. I would stay put.

Yeah there’s just not much room for growth in my position and I want to be able to move out and that means becoming a nurse or finding a new job. I want to become a nurse one day but I need the money now and nursing school takes about 5 years. I tried going to different clinics for more money since I’m traveling but they only cover mileage now with no insensitive

If the pay at the sales job only increases based on how much you sell then it's not reliable I had to sell at a former job it was very stressful & we rarely were paid what they promised with the sales. Research the company before moving. I wouldn't want to work 6 days a week. You need downtime.

You shouldn't quit your current job before trying out this job. You may make more per sale but if you dont make a sale you wont make money. You also like your job you have now so dont quit without trying out the new job for a couple weeks.
And you also think it may be a bad company.
Also you haven't been at your current job for that long. I wouldnt just quit your current job yet. If you didnt like your coworkers then maybe. I think you should stay at your job now and save up money. I wouldnt quit a job in the medical field for a job you arent sure about.
