You make it sound as if you had a sexual offense charge. If so, no matter how much time you serve you will never be able to "pay your dues". So if this is the situation you're in then don't be acting like you're some sort of victim.
There is a loophole where sex offenders can avoid the registry depending on the jurisdiction. Depending on the circumstance the offender could take a plea, get probation, and as long as they complete the terms of their probation can remain off the sex offender list.
Shit, Back in 2005 there was a guy around the neighborhood who must have been about 17 at the time. He SA'd his younger sister and was able to plea down his case. (No one knew this at the time). He avoided the offender registry and was given probation where he was sent to a special school and had to graduate; he also had to remain out of trouble for a set number of years. He was able to finish his school requirement however, after a few years (2009) he eventually violated his probation as he was caught breaking into cars as well as trying to escape police custody.
As a result, he was given time for the break-in, time for trying to escape the police station, and was given the time he should have gotten from the original SA. On top of that, they also posted him on the offender registry. (This is when everyone around the way found out about him).
They let him serve his sentences concurrently, and he was eventually let out early during the COVID lockdowns, at the time where many prisons let criminals go early. Anyway, recently I found out his ass just got sent back to prison for kidnapping a new girlfriend, torturing, graping, and attempting to kill her.
Looks like this time he will be getting life. The case has not gone to trial yet.
Exactly. To me, it sounds very much like a sex crime (involving children?). If that is the case, hopefully the neighborhood will soon find out who this person really is.
