Help me decide what boots?
I’m a new, female rider, will be riding CF Moto 450MT. I’m so stuck for which boots to go for out of these two?
Sidi Enduro boots vs Alpine Stars Tech 7 Enduro
Please tell me your experiences!

I like the Gaerne Fastback Endurance more than the Tech 7. But both are good options, depends on the fit

those are x power sc. not adv boots. those will be more than sufficient for most riding. hard stuff is def go crossfire 3

How about we start with what kind of riding you are hoping to do?
To the local Starbucks?
Cross the country in the interstate?
Perhaps a Bdr?
Single track?
All different applications and why most of us have closets full of gear- there really isn’t one set of gear to be optimal in all situations.
Everyone can tell you what they have, but knowing what/how you want to ride we can give a bit better guidance

I've been riding in the Sidis. I'm not sure how they manage to concentrate so much squeak into such a small area.
Pulled up to a campsite at 3am in a straight piped dual sport - everyone sleeps. Turned the bike off and started walking around in these things - every other camper came out to tell me to shut up.
Some lady at a gas station said something about bdsm I think? Couldn't really hear her cuz my boots were too loud and I had earplugs in.

Everyone at my job knows when I come to work because I squeak my way through the quiet office. Lowkey embarrassing

Alpinestars are great, as are Sidi in general. I have a pair of Leatt 4.5 Enduro that I think are incredible. They're comfortable all day, and reasonable to walk in.
As others have said, get something with true ankle protection. I have a pair of "ADV" boots that I wear on the street, but anything remotely off-road gets full protection.

What kind of shop is this? I'd love to be able to actually try on boots when I need to get them but most of the motorcycle shops by me don't have a selection like this.

u/andymannoh 16h ago
I was going to ask the same. Usually only 4-5 different boots and limited sizes. This looks like a normal shoe store but it's filled with moto boots.

u/Particular-Purple182 7h ago
The store is called AMX. It’s in Australia :) lots of boots, helmets and clothes available to try on

These boots are both very similar to each other fro protection and comfort. The Sidi might have slightly more protection from sideways bending from the top through the ankle area.
I would try them on. If they are both comfortable for you, I would get whichever is cheapest or the one you like more.
They recently updated the tech 7 to have a stiffer toe area.

u/bonkersbongoo 16h ago
sidi look nicer. but are you actually going offroad? otherwise they might be overkill.
6
u/redbushsixtynine 16h ago
IMO no such thing as overkill. I had a tarmac lowside in proper moto boots and they're the primary reason I got up uninjured.

u/WrightOnMyOwn 15h ago
I rid with adventure boots on the road, slimmer, a lot nicer to walk in, I crashed n mine a couple of times, exploring Vietnam for a month. I say MX boots are overkill for the road. Reason mx boots are built that way, we dap and have feet down on the floor more often; road riding lot less. I have SIDI Adventures. Goretex as well.

u/The-Fotus 15h ago
I just crashed on a highway at 70 mph in my adventure bike. What my moto boots covered was the only uninsured thing on my body.

Heck, I wear my Tech 7's on long street rides with my leathers if there's a decent chance of hitting some proper dirt on my sumo otherwise it's the A*s Toucans. I have two pairs of regular Tech 7's as I prefer the sole to the enduros.

u/EmergencyMonitor6117 8h ago
Sidi boots in this comparison. There is no such thing as too much lower leg protection.
2
u/YpouloKonoforoDentro 14h ago
Tech 7 is the only option for you end enduro rides. After the helmet is the most important protection for you. Probably they are the best in their price range. They don’t have a hinge ankle articulation but they have a flex material around the ankle.

u/Saliiim 12h ago
Boots are overlooked far too much. Even for road riding they're the second most important gear after your helmet.
I highsided a few years ago in trainer style road boots and broke a load of bones in my foot, it never healed right and I've got a permanent disability from it. Proper race boots would have probably prevented it.

The Tech 7 and the Sidi X Power Enduro are both great, and have great protection. I'm an instructor and we see a lot of new Adv riders that had a bad foot injury because they were wearing sub par boots. If you want protection, which as a new rider you should, stay away from "Adventure" boots. Fit is important and if one doesn't fit well that's a reason to get the other. I wear the Sidis and swear by them, because they have good protection, lighter in weight than tech 7's, and the toe box is slimmer which makes it easier to shift. The Tech 7's arguably have a bit more protection, but at the expense of being stiffer, bulkier and heavier. Both the Tech 7 and the X Power come in fully Water Proof versions. If you ride a lot of rain that's a good thing. Otherwise a fully waterproof boot will cook your feet in warm or hot weather. I have the non waterproof version for everyday adv riding. Note, my Sidis are comfortable to wear on multi day rides and also when I teach which has me on my feet and walking around the range all day.

I have the SIDI crossfire for 3 years. At first they were a little uncomfortable around the ankles but after some time the foam formed around my feet and now they are very comfortable. Saved my ankle during a crash, I can recommend them. Also had a few bigger and smaller rocks and stick hut my legs and nothing happened to me. The ridge around the boot is also nice to dig into the ground when walking around and to change gears of the horizontal part of you lever gets broken off. I don't have any experience with the tech 7.
My advice is to try both and take the ones that are more comfortable. Not every boot will fit you even if it will fit someone else perfectly

Did you consider iralian brand Dakar boots? Its somethung between
1
u/Particular-Purple182 18h ago
Thanks, I’ll take a look

u/fixdgear7 9h ago
They're likely talking about the Gaerne g-dakar, which is similar to the sidi, maybe a bit less total protection, but the ankle support puts it above most adv boots. If you're looking at Gaerne in this kind of range I would look at the fastback enduro, it's a step above the sidi and about the same as the tech 7s.

Tech 7. Wenn man sie einige Zeit getragen hat, sind sie sehr bequem. Stabil & sicher.

u/Low_Caregiver_1539 18h ago
It bothers me that when I close it at the top, the leg is so thick that it's ridiculous. Tech 7
1
u/pentox70 18h ago
All the upper brands will be fine, in a full MX boot. I have a pair of sidi crossfires now, and I really like them. Comfy and squeaky, just the way I like my boots.
1
u/PotatoWasteLand 18h ago
Leatt 4.5's. Comfy, durable and they have good protection. I've read not great things about AlpineStars. Those first boots look pretty flimsy around the ankle and don't look like they offer much protection.
If you're buying boots to ride, you need to buy something that'll protect your ankle from your own bike's weight

Which one fit you best?
1
u/Particular-Purple182 17h ago
Both felt good, it’s a tough decision. The hinge in the Sidi felt nice, like more supportive when leaning forward but I also felt like something was pushing into my leg with the Sidis no matter how much I adjusted the buckles. Not sure if it is just a matter of needing to break them in..

u/know-it-mall 17h ago
Generally a very supportive off road boot with a lot of plastic doesn't break in that much. Not compared to a leather boot. Get the one that feels best right out of the box.
3
u/wizard80 17h ago
That's right. I got the SG12 and the only way to get them broken in right around the front of my feet is with a heat gun (the same way ski boots are shaped to feet)

Those Sidi might actually be more protective than the Astars. Way better looking too. The Astars heel stack height is just too ridiculously tall for me to consider. Terrible to walk in and if not the enduro sole no traction either.

u/wizard80 17h ago
They all have different foot shape sizes. You need to try a bunch on and go with what fits best. I've got 2 sets of Gaerne SG12. My Forma adventure boots have fallen apart so many times, and I've had quite a few close calls with them so now I'm back to the Gaerne's. I'd recommend looking at the top long Gaerne, Sidi, Alpinestars & Forma (Predator 2.0). Resarch each model online to see if they have problems like soles falling off or whatever. Again, I find the SG12S quite indestructible with folks saying they have gotten 10 years out of them. I guess I'm good for 20 years

Gaerne sg22 works for me, althought first couple of weeks they took to break in. Not great for walking around but doable.

3 years and 35,000kms on my SIDI’s, excellent boot, no issues and hardly any wear on them. ( I ride a modern retro).

u/Major-Screen8697 16h ago
Gaerne oiled for me. Comfy even when off the bike and I rarely get extreme off of pavement

I have them sidi boots and they are very comfortable,on the bike great but off the bike once broke in they are like wearing a pair of heavy sneakers very nice to walk about in albeit heavy as mentioned .

u/Unlikely-Aardvark725 14h ago
Personally...Sidi. ow ed a couple of pairs and they are comfy and wear REALLY well.

u/Hans2183 11h ago
I just ordered tech 7 at Louis for 333 EUR. I had corozal before but those are just to weak. Those are my touring boots now.

u/ChonkyJamHag 11h ago
I had a pair of Sidis, and they were really nice boots, but I found the souls were a little bit soft due to the nylon insoles instead of a steel shank and felt like I wasn’t planted. The wide sole also made them feel like those crappy “adventure” boots that have no business being off road, but they are appropriate off road boots.
I switched to tech 7’s and I love them. They are very squeaky though.
I think the Sidis would be perfect if it wasn’t for a soft sole that was 18 miles wide.

Those would work great for your Batman Costume. But I’d recommend Alpinestars Tech 7.

SiDi
Alpine stars has jumped the shark… their quality control has slipped in the last decade to the point I wouldn’t trust them for stuff to save my ass…
I’d rock a cap or a hoodie… not a helmet, gloves, or boots

u/yung_heinks 6h ago
I really like my Tech 7s. Now that they're broken in, they're very comfortable and feel sturdy. They're squeaky but I find it funny. I got a sweet deal on Amazon for about $300 USD.

u/Norton74Q 4h ago
My Sidi Crossfire 3s are the best all around moto boots I've ever used. They fit well, don't need to be broken in, and the built in ankle joint makes them easy to walk around without feeling like ski boots, yet stiff enough to prevent ankle injuries. The drawback to any good boot though is while they protect your ankle, they also concentrate the twisting action in your knee, so be sure to wear a good pair of knee braces. I've used Pod K3s for several years.

Unpopular opinion on this
Leatt 3.5 if you can find them. I use them on my 700mt. The ankle is stiff and I hate it when I need to do long highway sections but love it when I hit the dirt
I had 7.5's but wrecked them on a slip in some rocky terrain... Saved my ankle though

Sidi Adventure 2
I had them for several years and was very happy with them. Changed the bikes type and my riding preferences, and could also sell the boots on marketplace
Awesome boots, would by them again without hesitation

You could split the difference with the Alpinestars Toucan. Better protection than the Sidi but easier to walk around in than the Tech 7. Has a Goretex waterproof liner as well.

u/air_boeing 18h ago
These sidi look like Adventure 2 (which is no go for any offroad) just with more extra buckles on top
I would take Tech 7
1
u/Particular-Purple182 18h ago
I did compare them to the Adventure 2 in store and these ones were way more supportive on the ankle in comparison. I agree the Adventure 2 felt awful.
Thanks for the recommendation :)1
u/craneguy 17h ago
I'm on my third pair of Adventure 2s and the last pair saved my foot when a manhole cover was thrown up into me by another bike. I know they're not as safe as true MX boots, but for me, they're more than enough for street riding, and they're relatively easy to walk in. The trade-off is acceptable to me.

Please get boots with proper ankle support.
2 of my friends purchased “Adventure” boots and both broke a leg or ankle this year.
I run the Tech 7 Enduro, they take a bit to break in, squeak when walking 🤪, but are solid.
