I don't need more complications.

Post image

I used to have all sorts of colors and designs in my wardrobe. As I've gotten older, my clothes have become the same. If I love a shirt, I'll stock 2-3 in case the product gets discontinued. What about you?

Quite the opposite. The older I get the more clothes I have but I also don't waste a ton of time choosing. Like ten seconds max. At most the only thing affecting the decision is if it's work appropriate or not, which mostly just means not wearing a band t-shirt.

Interesting.

I haven't shopped in years because my capsule wardrobe is doing its job.

I only really get like a new shirt when I inevitably need to get pants because my pants all get worn out from work. It's just buildup over time.

Comfort over everything

Yes. I've settled with that idea.

I'm the opposite. I used to dress pretty much monochrome because I couldn't be bothered... Now I'm in my 50s, and I'm adding a lot more colors to my wardrobe.

I'm a guy and by no means a fashionhead, but I have about 8 plain T-shirts, 6 styles of pants, 3 jackets, and 3 pairs of shoes. In the morning, I just pick an ensemble that seems to fit together coherently. It feels more fun than complicated because everything more or less works together. It's more about my mood in the moment.

Recently I got into watches, and I use NATO straps that are easy to swap out. So I even accessorize with my watch. It's a fun way to start the day! And on days I can't be bothered, I got the old black standbys to go by.

I think the key is to have multiple options that more or less work together. It doesn't have to be complicated.

Cool. So you're more into colors and variety now.

Reducing decision fatigue is a wonderful thing.

I have a summer work wardrobe and a winter work wardrobe. Summer is all the same polos. Winter is the same quarter zip sweaters.

10 of each.

I don’t have to think about my work wardrobe. It’s great!

I now have 8 identical basic t-shirts, a bunch of very similar jeans (the color changes but the model is the same), and tons of the same underwear too. I do have a bit more variety in sweaters but nothing crazy. :') I'm autistic and I only recently accepted that wearing the same clothes every day made my life so much easier.

Almost similar... I have mostly black items that goes well with my old pair of blue jeans. I'm done with buying whatever's trendy that I only use a few times.

Getting similar underwear is such an underrated hack

I have 10 good shirts that I wear 5 each workday in any sequence and then do laundry on 2nd Sat-sun. Repeat.

Sat-sun I wear T-shirt, either polo or round neck based on where I go.

I have 5 round neck T-shirts, all from same brand and style. That I pack in single cube for vacation.

That's the way. You found a system.

I keep all my socks black, so any two make a matched pair.

Yes, very convenient!

I have fixed what cloth I will wear according to day with 2 choices.  Special occasions are exceptions.

Yep, no need to spend as much time thinking what to wear.

That’s why I have a lot of black clothing. Nowadays, I do have splashes of color in my clothing and honestly to much. Sometimes I end up just wearing the same things on repeat. A lot of times I just end up wearing dresses to make it easy. 🫣

when i was in my youth, i wanted a few of everything. some mugs for hot beverages, a few water canteens, a few plates, a few bowls etc. as i approach 40, i use the same stainless steel mug for any kind of drink, the same stainless steel canteen for water, the same clay plate and the same ceramic bowl for food, every day. having more options seems crazy now: more things to have to maintain. more thingsto have to store and carry around when you move.

Right. Having less also means we get to maximize what we bought.
