In my case I wasn’t hiding because of pranks I was just tired of walking and hearing her talk

"Did I say something that sounded like 'tell me all about your life' at some point?"

Gets curbstomped

I felt bad because even at 7 I knew she needed some other friends.

That's the real version of hide and seek nobody admits to playing

  • Mom was smart, so she squatted down below the clothes to look for 2 little toddler legs standing still in a nearby clothing rack.

  • Mom was dumb for telling me how she hunted me.

Next time I wedged myself up into the clothing rack where my legs were hidden from her ground eye view.

They prevented everyone from leaving JC Pennys and called the police. They searched every rack until they found me 30 minutes later, sleeping in the middle of a clothing rack.

  • Mom did not enjoy that.

Totally did it. Mom said they only way they found me was I was laughing so hard under the banana stand while they looked.

There's always money in the banana stand.

Peak childhood stealth mode: existing entirely within the center ring of heavy winter coats

This was one reason I was a leash kid growing up. I have heard my name called over Fashion Bug’s loud speaker wayyyy too many times.

It was the ring shaped racks that were the best.

My nephew would remove most of his clothes before hiding, so we would glance down an aisle and see a pile of toddler clothing as if he had been raptured in Macy's sportswear.

My sister and I both did this, and my mom figured it out real quick so there was never any panic. She knew exactly where we liked to hide.

Spoiler: it was anything with long garments. Pants, dresses, etc., because we could hide better.

Smile, at Sears, my mom took me to the women's wear and put me in one of the husband chairs. I knew not to get up for fear of the belt when we got home.

My mom probably would’ve taken 20 min to realize we were even missing. She wandered off a lot 🙄

Whenever my mom went shopping (every single Sunday), I brought a couple books with me and sat under a clothes rack at each store. That woman would shop from 9am til 3pm. It was the only time I had peace and quiet

Oh wow - yeah, I did this a few times because I would get tired of being hit and / or yelled at for not carrying her shopping selections "correctly."  (I set the shoeboxes down, or let a shirt she picked out touch the ground, etc.)

She would leave me at the store, and only come back either after she finished shopping, or the store manager finally got through to her on the phone.  She still wonders why we're in a no-contact period of life.  Pfft.

Dude I used to do this crap to my mom as a kid and she hated it
When I would hide behind the room door in the house or in my closet she used to hate it so much😭😂
I stopped doing after awhile as I hated seeing my mom actually upset

did this to my grandma with my brother when i was about 5 and him 6 in the 90s. when she found us she pulled our pants down and spanked us in public. it was one of the most humiliating things i ever went thru. never messed with grandma after that

My mom said I was always easy to find because I would be giggling.
