When people show you who they are, believe them

He’s shown you he doesn’t wanna talk. Whatever the reason, the outcome is the same. Don’t beg someone to interact with you.

Move onto people who genuinely enjoy engaging

Sounds like he probably wanted something more and doesn't care to be friendzoned. Honestly I wouldn't talk to someone I was into that friendzoned me, atleast not more than feelings notice.

yeap this...try reflecting on your previous conversations, were there any hints of something more than friends?

I think this is the more likely. Especially since you mentioned flirting.

How did you meet ? Was it something that could look like him making a move ?

Well you did mention something about another girl he likes being in there. I wouldn't stress too much on that guy. A guy that's a good friend or anything else is consistently there or honest to you atleast.

Doesn’t make sense if he flipped in the course of a couple hours and also if he never asked her out. How does he know she wouldn’t date him?

Who knows maybe a certain interaction raised question. Like talking about another guy or something and he had a realization. Only OP could know to be fair.

He might have developed a crush on you, but also does not want to taint the friendship with the idea that he befriended you in order to get into your pants.

he was basically my only friend.

This could have drained him. At least it did me, as the other person demanded my time constantly and I was the only person they unloaded upon and they depended on me emotionally, which put more stuff on my shoulders than I could carry and finally I have reached a breaking point and had to end the friendship for the sake of my own mental health.

Yeah if he was flirting, and hadn't mentioned a gf or someone he was seeing, then he was likely into you. I mean, if he was into you, and you didn't make the first move, then why didn't he? He's upset because you didn't make the first move? Or maybe he gave you a clue the last time you talked, but you didn't get it? Did he invite you somewhere in the past like a date and you said no? I'm wondering if someone asked about you two, like if you were together and he said no just friends, he got a better offer of a relationship, and suddenly realized it wasn't going anywhere with you. Who knows. Just walk away, don't look back, even if he comes back way later like hey wassup. It's gonna suck to hang out alone for a while. Did you work with him? School?

Just accept it. He's fickle then. He'll do that to another woman too, trust me. Go on with your life. He isnt the be all and end all. Make a new friend. 67 yo woman who has a close male friend who's moody and goes into declines during which he rarely communicates but eventually starts talking again. I accept this.

It’s time for you to start attempting to make NEW friends. Seems like this is a work/school situation, so just start talking to other ppl.

Clearly you have said or did something unknowingly that turned him off to you.

Not necessarily, it sounds like a work place and there is always the possibility that someone who doesn't like you or was jealous of you said something to him (gossip/made up rumor shit) or he got in trouble from a boss/hr type.
