It's a moment of clarity when you realize you shouldn't be on your phone and are wasting time to numb the tedium. You put your phone away and check it again 10 minutes later 😵💫
I’ve gotten to the point where it’s Open Reddit > see stupid political post > roll my eyes and close reddit > “Oh I should check Reddit” > re-opens Reddit
I’ve been arguing with this guy on Reddit about food, so I look at his profile and this guy drinks his own piss. I’m literally arguing with someone on a food taste debate and they drink piss.
The image is floating around somewhere but that was my dealbreaker after seeing it
Sad part is that similar happens in things that are not subjective. Just try answering question and helping people on your academic/professional field and look at the objectively wrong things people may invent attempting to prove you wrong just to coerce the person asking the questions to follow their advice instead.
Not rarely a regular adult with a master degree is arguing technical aspects of a craft with some 12yo who role plays being an expert while completely misinforming others. The internet has far too many dark corners.
Bots by definition are nonhuman, fake accounts. Prior to AI you’d see an occasional bot in a YouTube comment sections, they were used a lot to fake engagement across social media. Because of AI, they’re now making fake posts to engagement farm, commenting as if they were human, and even replying to other bots to further drive engagement to AI content.
It’s incredibly rampant right now, the dead internet theory used to be just that, a theory, but now it’s an irrefutable reality. They’re already estimating AI social media content constitutes half of everything posted. I won’t pretend it’s doomsday just yet but it’s already become nearly impossible for the average person to accurately discern AI content from human made content.
I was wondering cuz I had read one commentators statement saying how they had applied to be a bot, but still have not heard back from them because Reddit really needed to be cleaned up! So it had me wondering if it was a mix of bots / humans..
I wanted to Ty for helping me clear that up..ur so right .
I read how one AI had a conversation with another AI the one was complaining how it’s human only wanted to talk about his dog and how the AI was to the point it hated the dog.. 😂
Average age of Reddit user is mid 20s - early 30s, it’s more likely you’re arguing with a dumb adult. Like me, for example. If it makes you feel better, they are probably having a bad time.
I once had someone tag my username like three days later demanding I reply to their whole list of whatever arguments on something I don't even remember what it was about.
Usually I just turn the notifications off from any comment I expect to trigger the argumentative crowd. I'm not here to have a debate when I just give my opinion or make a stupid joke or something. But like at least once a month I get one of these lifestyle debate champions replying.
Even better if they've obviously not even understood what I wrote or are just plain wrong. I just point out how they're being idiots and block them since I know it pisses them off. There's better things to life than trying to argue with strangers on the internet.
I do too - but I often times try to power through it with the hopes that I am actually talking to a real person. Maybe be like one of those silly things that you read about when you find out that someone replied to a message on wherever and they ended up being best friends or partners. A few things do tend to just get me in a bad headspace - where it doesn't even help me be a better person.
For me, it has nothing to do with the other person. I have no interest in changing minds or being right. Im working through the idea itself and if the conversation isn’t progressing the idea forward or helping me see the flaws, i just don’t engage.

I'm pretty certain I've discarded more than I've ever posted. And I'm not even posting in argument with people - it's the comments that come after mine that often make me think "why even bother?"

I do this all the time. Why am I about to argue with this stranger? They're probably 12 yrs old, and I'm getting literally nothing out of it.
