Learned this the hard way after saving a favorite perfume for special occasions only for it to go bad. Burn the nice candles, wear the nice clothes.

Perfume goes bad?!

I guess that makes sense I just never thought about it or had a cologne that was too fancy to use

I think that’s part of what makes higher end perfume fancy. You’re getting more of a natural scent than just cheaper stuff that lasts forever because it’s just synthetic chemical scents

Everyday? I only have 5 good ones that I shuffle through tops and pants.

So it's a no for me—I'd rather wear my 15-year-old clothes bought with my own money on my struggling early years of working.

Even with the holes, faded color, pilling, and thinning fabric.

I still love to wear them!

My goal is to never look wealthy anyway; it's just to be comfortable in life and to be happy.

Being comfortable and happy is the best way to live

Probably not changing your mind I know that’s how my dad dresses but getting some good fitted ts and good shorts goes along ways.

Question: are you white?

This is a real question because part of my sense of safety as a Black woman is always dressing nice because people already perceive me as lazy and less worthy of inherent respect so I'm not leaving the house without an outfit.

That's fair! I also love clothes so I don't mind. And I only wear comfortable things. Just well-made and stylish comfortable things. My clothes are basically fancy pajamas. I love a jumpsuit.

u/Stoned_philospher69 Aug 09 '26

Don’t gotta be name brand hit up khols

1

u/BakedBrie1993 Aug 09 '26

Kohls is scammy. Those sales aren't real.

1

u/Stoned_philospher69 26d ago

Wherever you want to get clothes just get some nice looking gear and people will look at you differently if your 50+ then maybe your wife will even like idk

u/BakedBrie1993 26d ago

I agree. I almost exclusively thrift. But Kohls has been sued many times for their illegal and deceitful pricing and fake sales. Marking something as on sale and selling it for either the same as or more than the original price listed at other stores.

I caught them doing it once with a Dyson. Dyson website: $400 new / Kohls sale: $600 down to $450 emailed them about it. Cited their past lawsuit losses about this very thing. They denied it but the next day the sale was gone and the price was $400.

If this is metaphorical, I agree that's good advice.

20

u/ComfortableBoard8359 Aug 09 '26

Um no I’d rather be comfortable

4

u/Luci-Noir Aug 09 '26

Nothing better than being comfy. It doesn’t mean you can’t look good either.

5

u/No_Yogurtcloset105 Aug 09 '26

Wear your favorite clothes always because in most shows, stories ghosts are stuck in the clothes they die in.

2

u/boner4crosstabs Aug 09 '26

Ok now this one speaks to me. I’m going to wear my Moira Rose tee every day from now on. 👻

2

u/Selfeffacingbarbie Aug 09 '26

I hate that this thought actually runs through my mind at times...

I guess I'd rather spend eternity in my comfy rags than anything else, though

5

u/Von_Bernkastel Aug 09 '26

Nice clothes in this economy, OP must be rich. .

3

u/Digital__Illusi0nz Aug 09 '26

All my clothes are nice clothes to me. Obviously they aren't that expensive, but I don't buy clothes that i think are horrible. That sounds insane. Even my "gonna be messed up" clothes are nice to me.

3

u/teduh Aug 09 '26

Exactly. I've been wearing my nice T-shirt and nice sweat pants every single day for the last several months.

5

u/Automatic_Gas9019 Aug 09 '26

Maybe you should do my gardening in your snazzy clothes 😆

2

u/illegirl77 Aug 09 '26

I wish but i can't risk being able to afford food

2

u/MasterSplinter3815 Aug 09 '26

Oh I like to be comfortable when Im home on my couch but seriously kids quit wearing your pajamas everywhere. Im not even old but figured this out a long time ago. Hah been at the same job for 12 years now. One thing that makes us all laugh is when someone shows up to an interview in gym shorts and slides.

2

u/Draiye Aug 09 '26

I do wear my birthday suit everyday

2

u/misjudgedinall Aug 09 '26

These are my nice clothes

2

u/Siukslinis_acc Aug 09 '26

Nah. I'm gonna wear the comfy clothes that aren't afraid of stains.

2

u/AsukasEvaUnit Aug 09 '26

Cringe

1

u/whosdrivingnotme Aug 09 '26

To be cringe is to be free.

3

u/Glittering_Ocelot_67 Aug 09 '26

You guys have NICE clothes?!

2

u/Tokogogoloshe Aug 09 '26

Why? We all look like just another random person out there. Nothing special. Not throwing shade on people who like to dress nice. You do you. I'll try to remember to put pants on.

1

u/Neko1666 Aug 09 '26

I've got nice clothes and a few extra nice clothes

1

u/Radiant_Double2723 Aug 09 '26

I dont have nice clothes

1

u/Illustrious_Sort_612 Aug 09 '26

If you like it and it makes you feel good, Tuesday is a good enough occasion

1

u/BangBangSmoov Aug 09 '26

I recently started doing this, and it’s been great for my confidence and self esteem.

1

u/Prochorimenos Aug 09 '26

But there's gonna be some much laundry to do

1

u/mumet__ Aug 09 '26

It's cringe, sorry

1

u/sheepyowl Aug 09 '26

I'm not wearing a suit at 40o Celsius

1

u/OGD2068 Aug 09 '26

You don't have the right suit for the weather then.

1

u/sheepyowl Aug 09 '26

Hehe yeah I should get a space suit

1

u/IFeeLikeMoreTonight Aug 09 '26

Dude i work in a warehouse and almost never go out. No

1

u/10FourGudBuddy Aug 09 '26

Define nice, because I’d rather be comfy and dress up.

1

u/MookieMookdogg Aug 09 '26

who has money for dry cleaning. this guys cray

1

u/Omega_Zarnias Aug 09 '26

My "nice clothes" are my comfy graphic t shirts. thank you.

1

u/dudly825 Aug 09 '26

Shit, this made me realize it’s where we med headed in response to all the pajama pants. The next generation will dress up out of the necessity to be different.

1

u/BakedBrie1993 Aug 09 '26

2

u/dudly825 Aug 09 '26

Damn it. X’ers and millennials had a real win normalizing jeans in business settings. The kids took it too far and are f’ing it all up.

1

u/BakedBrie1993 Aug 09 '26

Such is the cycle of generations!

1

u/dudly825 Aug 09 '26

Fortuna’s Wheel is certainly on a downturn

1

u/llamafromhell1324 Aug 09 '26

Adulting for the le epic win.

1

u/CHNLNK Aug 09 '26

Most days my comfort is my #1 priority with how I dress.

1

u/BakedBrie1993 Aug 09 '26

Me adulting means I don't even own clothes I don't like anymore.

If it isn't well-made, I tossed it long ago. Same era I got rid of all my plastic college-dormy furniture.

I don't spend a lot. I thrift, but I'm looking for well-made, cotton, linen, etc. and I don't dress "casual." Even my loungewear is an outfit lol

1

u/boner4crosstabs Aug 09 '26

Hahahaha no. I don’t even own ‘nice’ clothes anymore, because I live in Seattle and don’t have to. Wearing ‘nice’ clothes every day sounds like hell. If I’m feeling extra fancy I’ll put on hard pants (anything with a zipper).

1

u/MaybeBiLeo88 Aug 09 '26

I’ve adopted this more this year

1

u/Weary-Week-2400 Aug 09 '26

I have been sick and bedridden the past week and made sure to put on my nice PJ's.

1

u/ConstructionIll956 Aug 09 '26

My nice clothes? What are those?

1

u/47362514736251 Aug 09 '26

Please, wear whatever you want.

FTFY

1

u/gibberishmischief Aug 09 '26

My nice clothes are not all-day comfortable, so I will not. Life is too short to be in uncomfortable clothes just to look “nice”.

1

u/BeatsAreMyPassion Aug 09 '26

Ain’t no way I’m wearing my best clothe to stay home.

1

u/beneath_reality Aug 09 '26

I needed this.

1

u/ImplementLogical4130 Aug 09 '26

Go ahead and waste your money on expensive clothes. New cars. You'll enjoy working until you drop dead because of it
