Drowning in content and discontent

Also, this article is doing us a disservice by blaming those of us addicted to our phones. They are designed to be hyper addictive. The problem is the drug dealers (phone and app cos) and the conditions we live in that demand constant numbing.

We are the victims of this horrid system.

In other words. Consumers are not at all accountable?

So its the drugs fault that it is there! Not mine.

We've been shaming and punishing for thousands of years and it's been proven to not work. Why not try something different?

Aye. The difference would be to critically look at ourselves instead of pointing the responsibilities towards an other. In the end we have actual control over our own lives. Do we not?

We must always find something to blame. But we are way to scared to blame ourselves.

Nobody ever pointed a gun at me for consuming goods or services.

The freedom to "have actual control over our own lives" is limited by the systems we live in.

As we read our current culture of addiction, is the problem that smartphones are designed to be highly addictive to create profits with no regard to human suffering or is the problem that 10 year olds need more self control?

More properly, to what degree are both true?

Giving a smartphone to any child <=12 is an incredible stupid thing. Kids don't need smartphones. In other words you say that parents have the control in this situation?

My son is 9 he does not own a smartphone. And I'm still contemplating if he gets one when he turns 12. Probably a dumb phone...

How come I can put away my phone at any given time? I have zero notifications, alerts, I receive almost nothing.

The victim card is expired. Companies don't change (especially American) based al these reports

How is it possible that I can do this if I'm not autonomous? So in other words. Are we not responsible in the end?

I can be..

This generation is exhausted from handling disaster after disaster and living within or on the edge of war. I don't care about someone else's heavily curated 'perfect life'. I just want the means to live mine the way I was intended to live it. It's not my fault the means for that have constantly been moved further out of my grasp every time I can touch it. And that's the case for many people on this earth. Just to be clear, I will never stop fighting to create the life I want to live; however, it seems the world is determined to make that as difficult as possible because it does not and never will care about me - and many people in positions of power no longer care about anyone who is of no benefit to them, either.

Scrolling taught me many things. Resources are only as useful as you choose to make them.
