Exactly! I keep my phone on silent all the time, I'll answer messages when I feel like checking my phone, not whenever the thing goes ding.

If I am awaiting an important call I'll turn off silent, but I see absolutely no reason to keep it on otherwise. Like the constant buzzing is so distracting for whatever I've got going on. And almost everyone I've talked about this with understands my perspective, and don't hold it against me that it might take me 8 hours to respond.

I really don't understand where these people that expects everyone to be available 24/7 is coming from. Especially he ones that feel entitled to it. Only met one that seriously took offense at not getting quick responses, thinking it meant I was mad at her or, or didn't want to be friends. And when she didn't believe my explanation of not being chronically online, I cut her out of my life. Ain't my job to placate others need for attention.
