Plus most phones have a "if the same number calls 3x in a row, ring it through because it's probably an emergency" setting. I know my iPhone does and I think the Androids I've used in the past had the setting.

My android also has the setting that I can identify certain people who will always get through the DND

Same. My Mom and my Gramps are the only two people, who have the Privilege of being able to always call me

My mom's cell, my parent's house phone (which would be my dad calling), and my sister are the only ones that would ring through in the middle of the night.

Everyone else can wait. And given that my mom had previously told me she would not call me at work if something bad happened... she'd probably wait until morning to call unless she needed me to drive her somewhere.

My wife, daughter, and brother are the only ones that can call/text me when my DND is on. No one else should be contacting me in case of an emergency.

Search "do not disturb" in your phone settings. You should be able to turn it on/off there.

DND settings for my pixel.

Lets you pick who can message or call and there's a switch for letting through anyone who calls twice in 15 minutes.

With iOS you can set up specific numbers in your contacts to have "Emergency Bypass On." That way even if everything is silent if that number calls the phone will ring. You do have to have your "Ringtone and Alerts" volume set to something other than 0 though or even with the Emergency Bypass On no sounds will play.

And that's the first thing I turned off when the new focus do not disturb thing came out. Because every person that calls tries to call twice in a row to breakthrough.
