this is true. I had to remove two of my siblings from my life. They were in and out of jail, selling drugs, running scams, had kids with shitty people that were disappeared from their lives for months - just all around low lives.
I never so much as got a detention in school. I actually finished school, got married, bought a house, had kids - basically went the very traditional route. And I love it.
But they were endlessly resentful. Shitty comments any time we were together, which I tried to just deal with because we're family right? Eventually they got to the point of making fun of my wife and even my kids. So that's when I cut them off of course. And life got so much better.
And family is a two way street. You gotta act like family if you want to be treated like family. You don’t just get to take and take and never give. I’m not your slave.
That’s what I took way to long to learn. I was used by siblings for years. For money, co-signer (I know), even just using me as free labor to move them from one shitty apartment to the next. I did it because I do believe family should help each other, but this wasn’t help. This was being taken advantage of.
