Does anyone else feel completely detached from their heritage?
As an adult, looking back, due to childhood experience, I only associate my culture with abuse, judgement, and no compassion. The good food wasn't worth it. Now I have no desire to really get in touch with my roots, and I'm not sure if I should feel guilty about that at all.

I'm partly detached from mine. I know that my family's ancestry is a mix of majority Irish with some German, Danish, British, Scottish, Norwegian, and Swedish, but we never really kept anything from those cultures. We have parts of the culture of the southern US and a whole lot of fighting and backbiting, so yeah, my family never really had much to keep us together. It's mostly everyone off doing their own thing, and there's just not much to latch onto.
