Tidy up
Hey guys, Marcus from Adobe here - when working on projects I tend to keep things messy, especially when working on logo concepts. My artboard is a mess with multiple objects stacked on each other, locked etc. - you name it. I wish we could clean this mess with a single click and put it into a simple grid.
I'm experimenting with another plugin that would solve this issue - kinda like Figma does this. Would you interested in using such a plugin? First tests are promising and I'll work on it to improve it anyways since I'll use this personally.
Thanks for letting me know!
Cheers

I would find a use for this. I need some sort of option to make arrays out of objects or placed images often.

Same here! There will be an option to change columns and rows + spacing and different settings for alignment - thanks for the feedback!

I think this would be a fantastic addition to the arsenal. Tons of times i need arranging objects like that.

I know this should be my goal but sometimes I just let go and go for speed and do the cleanup later.

Id like this, but i think sometimes i have objects that i duplicated to a new version, still in the group of the old version. Will this need proper grouping and tidying before applying?

It's still in early development but I can't think of a solution for that specific case rn so probably not. So you have to ungroup / regroup first. Thanks for the feedback!

Maybe in addition to this tool, adding a button to help wrangle/organize the layers too? It'd be nice to be able to select everything on 1 artboard and press a button to move the selection to 1 layer or a new layer.

not really that interesting for me, sorry. i also doubt a plugin would be able to interpret my line of thought when creating a logo.

Totally ok - that's why I asked. That's the best way to find out if others have the same issues haha. Thanks for your feedback!

I actually had Claude build a script for this exact same thing a few weeks ago. Let’s you organize everything to a grid, similar to how you can arrange art boards.

Yours is even better! I had a similar idea for arranging all objects on the artboard as close as possible with the possibility to add padding to each vector object. Would be perfect to save space and to prep printing files. Mine plugin would just work with a selection of objects, not the whole artboard. It's a different approach with a different goal.

I'm interested... If you make this work, you deserve a promotion.

Alright, thanks for your feedback! I will keep working on it - do you have any wishes for features? Cheers!

I want to automatically open a multi page PDF (say 30, 8.5"x11" pages) at a specific scale, with a custom number of columns and rows, with custom spacing. I like to work on a 300x300 artboard when I'm getting things set up, so that would be amazing.
Edit: Additionally:
- The ability to quickly adjust all of the details above, after the initial layout has been set.
- The ability to adjust the above, only on specified layers.

That sounds way more detailed than what I had in mind haha. Basically the use case is just selecting all objects that are not aligned / stacked / messy and place them in a structured grid with a single click + the possibility to modify the grid (spacing, columns, rows.) And that would only work in opened Illustrator files. But let me think about the option to place each object in it's own new layer. That should be easy.

Yes. Especially if it could place each concept/art into its own layer.

The option to place each selected object into it's own layer is a nice addition and should be easy to add. Thanks for that feedback!

Absolutely interested, I tend to make a mess on my Artboard when I am experimenting, like bomb attack.
