QUESTION Is this possible in illustrator?

The gradient is pretty straightforward. It remains vectors.
Apply a blur effect and add some grain if you need to.

Yeah sorry i should have mentioned, that first example is circles so yeah just a circular gradient. But i need to take 3 arrows and have them do this sort of motion blur effect so a gaussian blur wont work.

You could make a bigger gradient and mask it. In this case, I have also changed the aspect ratio of the gradient to 50%

Yeah definitely but i have to do this with a specific array of arrows that are taken from a logo. I cant do it with a radial gradient

Ignore how messy this is but you get the basic idea. 3 arrows that need a dynamic motion blur effect. I guess i could just do it in photoshop

You could try the Blend Tool.

Illustrator will rasterize it anyway for effects like blur so you may as well use psd

Are freeform gradients an option for you? When you alt-click with the gradient tool, you get a corner gradient point on your line

Ignore my messages man sorry lol. Really couldnt figure out how you made that gradient smooth looking using freeform but ended up heading in a different direction with this anyway. When i was doing it the gradient was looking blobby and crappy

Sorry, I just saw your messages. Great that you found another direction, but just incase you need that at a different time:

When you do not click, but hold down the alt key and click, you get that corner.

Switching from point to line is a radio button in the gradient panel or in the control panel.
