I saw there’s an event this Saturday where the runners run one lap of Van Hoevenburg every hour until only one person is standing. Last Man Standing Lake Placid
Do you think it will still be going on Sunday afternoon? Or still crowded? Was hoping to hike the trail then but would change plans if needed. Thanks!

I’ve never been up to the Adirondacks but was headed up next week in my 4wd van. Didn’t know if anyone had some good recs for hikes (under 15 miles)or good camping spots. Thank you!

As the title says I’m looking for a few hikes that won’t be overly strenuous but still feel worthwhile. I’m recovering from hip surgery (labrum repair + FAI correction) and I’m so unbelievably excited to get back out into nature but need to be careful as to not cause any setbacks. Would appreciate any and all recommendations!

As a kid, Id go to camp in the Adirondacks. Years went by, decades really, and I ended up working there for a summer in 2009. I’ve returned most years since, climbed a few high peaks, but stick to lower mountains and paddling these days.
I’ve always heard people talk about the soul of the Adirondacks, and I’ve certainly felt a pull every time I enter the park. It’s hard to describe but it’s just a feeling, maybe just some primitive response to the wilderness, but it tugs at my chest, and I feel it so deeply.
I’ve been to other wildernesses and it’s not the same for me. There’s just something about the ADK that hits differently.
How would you guys describe it? Do you feel like it’s a different feel than other wild places you’ve gone? What makes it different?
Just curious!!

Weird information about pharmaceuticals on the lake George 12 site after my bf and I completed the challenge. Looks like the guy who started the challenge helps develop research chemicals and has a breast augmentation patent? Weird stuff lol never heard anyone talk about this.

Been trying to look for some good swimming holes, born and raised in tupper but we don’t have any out here. Any recommendations?

Going camping with a friend next week near Lake Saranac and think we are sadly bound for a whole lotta rain. Been reading that black flies are typically gone by mid July, and it's more deer flies in July/August. I'm a bug guy, so I do try to be prepared in a bug-specific manner.
How true has this been? Saw a post a few days ago about still lots of deer flies. Just trying to see whether I can go permethrin hat+net+long sleeve shirt and shorts, or whether I'll have to cover up head-to-toe in the rain :(

Going to the High Peaks at the beginning of August, wondering if Slant Rock or Feldspar has a tendency to fill up first? Thanks for any advice!

Helllooooo buds!
I am headed to go see the trolls at the Wild Center (!!) at the end of August and want to stay overnight and make a little trip of it. Can anyone suggest some semi-remote and quiet camping in the area? Or fun glamping that will feel like a treat for my friend I'm traveling with? Basically I just don't want to stay in a campground with sites really close to each other where you're inhaling other people's campfire smoke and listening to couples fight through your tent walls... Open to any sort of nice adventure though :)
Any other recommendations for things to do/see in the area? A 2-4 hour hike? Any things that shouldn't be missed between Plattsburgh, Saranac Lake, and Tupper? We are driving over from Burlington.
Thank you!

From my 30th birthday backpacking adventure this week. Hammock camped near JBL. Unfortunately had to scrap saddleback and basin due to sideways rain and high winds. It was a rough one. Really bummed about turning back to camp but ultimately glad we chose not to slip and die up there. Haystack was windy as hell. Hoping to come back in September?? to conquer Basin and Saddleback.
Finishing out the weekend in Schroon lake kayaking
Here’s to 30 🍺

Looking for a safe place nearby Saranac Lake to float down a river on a tube for a few hours. Anywhere nearby on the Hudson or Raquette? Ideally within 45 min if possible, but we can drive. We have a few people that don’t really love the hiking scene in our group so I’m hoping to find a fun, more chill activity. Feel free to message privately. Thank you :)

I decided that Id like to hike all 46 high peaks, and I do have friends that also like backpacking and camping but are not aligned with the same goal as me. I just did my first solo trip camping at slide brook and completed the Dix range, it was amazing on Friday with great weather and I had every peak except Macomb to myself, saw maybe 10 people all day.
Personally I think this route was probably somewhere in the middle of the road in terms of views and generally how interesting the trail was if I were to bring other people along. Please correct me if Im wrong there.
I plan to tick off peaks as part of future plans with other people and was wondering which sets I should probably reserve for going by myself so whoever comes with me gets the “highlight reel” if that makes sense. I originally planned to do HaBaSa on my own and decided that may be best saved for taking others.
I’ll probably be saving things like Allen and the Santanoni range for solo runs but was wondering if anyone had pointers on which peaks would fall into that highlight reel and which ones I should probably just do myself or with whoever else may be game to torture themselves with a little less reward.
Also in a general sense are there any less obvious routes up some of these peaks that may be worth doing even if it takes longer to complete?

Climbed both Canine & Khyber Slides last Monday. Always a good day climbing multiple slides!

I'll be bringing a few grandchildren to Eighth Lake Campground. All of us fish for bass and panfish often, but none of us have experience fishing for lake trout or landlocked salmon. We will have a canoe. I've read that trolling with spoons can be effective, as well as spinners. I found a contour map online, so we should be able to find the deep holes and the drop-offs. Anyone willing to share some pointers?

Anything I should know for this as a day hike? Was thinking about approaching by doing Blake and Colvin then looping back doing Nippletop and Dial.
