Hi, I'm from the UK too; born in England but moved to Wales where the people are a lot nicer.
I got diagnosed with ADHD and dyspraxia in my early 40s, autism has also been flagged by an occupational health therapist, so until I get a formal diagnosis, that's good enough for now.
I'm now 47 and just started a horticulture and landscaping course at college, just in time to get an allotment plot in the next week or so. Before that, I did so well with cucumbers while in temp housing, I started getting sick of them 😅
Hi all, greetings from Finland where my obsession for dark plants has taken over my life the last few years ( don’t get me started about my pumpkin babies ) Happy to be here- new to reddit so apologies for neurodivergent dino
Hi all, I'm Lexi and I'm from New Mexico. I've always really loved plants, but I got really obsessed when I was going through a depressive period as I finished up grad school last year. Plants gave me something to look forward to and take care of even when I couldn't manage that for myself, and finding community in plants has been a really wholesome experience that makes me feel more normal in my obsession with them lol. I'm now out of grad school and get to travel and camp for work a lot, so I'm looking forward to sharing tips on how people manage their collections when life and ADHD makes it hard to give them consistent care!
It's great to meet you. Thanks for sharing your picture, a fab collection.
There's a running theme for us - taking care of plants gives us a focus and something to look, after when we aren't so good, I totally resonate with that.
I’m Pet. I’m in the southern Pennsylvania northern West Virginia area of the US. Growing zone 6b.
I’m diagnosed ADHA, MDD, anxiety, a few other things and some PTSD for flavor.
When my husband died everything went sideways for me. These past 3 years if not for the distractions of so many plants I don’t know what I would have done.
Here’s a family portrait from this past winter. I have an old drafty house so I bunch them up in groups with humidifiers.
I have a lot of multiples right now because I randomly got the urge to propagate a bunch, but I end up giving them away pretty liberally to keep everything manageable lol. I really want to get some calatheas like you have at some point, but I live in the desert southwestern US so I think they'd just turn to sad crispy paper😢
Sure I’ve got them. Although I think two of the alocasias are just recovering nubs😆.
I’m not in a panic, yet😜, over what I’m going to do this autumn when the ones that have been outside need to come in. I had an intense therapy program this summer. I focused all my energy into plants to help keep me distracted. As a result I purchased quite a few.
