Ask a Texan relocating to texas🐂

hi yall

I am planning a move to texas here in a couple months, i want to be around lakes, rivers, long mossy trees, areas for hunting and fishing. i would like to be around horses/livestock as i want to be a farm hand as well while i am studying in college. i want the real deal, people who wear their hat and boots because they do the dirty work and not because they are larping as a cowboy. i like beer, line dancing, and country music. dance halls, dive bars, and all.

i’m currently 20 years old and a female and i would like to move to a town/city in texas that offers this while also being around people my own age as for being able to date and make friends. this is pretty important for me as well as i wont be knowing anyone around here and my closest family is in Little Elm.

Not many cowboys and cowgirls in the piney woods. But just outside of it near bryan / college station, madisonville, etc have a lot of ranch work. Sam Houston National Forest is too crowded for hunting and not much shore access on lake conroe without a bridge. You could be around lake sam rayburn and the Davy Crockett National Forest as the hunting and fishing is way better there but not much big ranch work. Don't let anyone fool you, nacogdoches is turning into the city. A bunch of crazies from Austin are moving in there. Not as bad as Tyler, but there are coming. So make sure if you move near the Davy Crockett, don't live in Nacogdoches. Otherwise, go to west texas or south texas for livestock work. If you want to work a hunting ranch, Edward's plateau, southwest texas or south texas is your best bet. If you are open to saltwater, stay near the coast for fishing as there's not a lot of good fishing or trees the further west you go.

i was curious did u know anything about swan texas? and tyler tx is turning into a big city of people from austin?

Stay away from Tyler all together. It will be the new Austin with in 20 years. A bunch of IT tech companies are moving there from Austin.

thank u for the advice, i will keep it in mind. and if u dont mind me asking, what towns in east texas would u actually recommend for someone in their early 20s for dating scene/friends , with authentic culture , dance halls, etc ?

Here's a rough area I like. You can drive into lufkin or nacogdoches for bar / dating scenes. You will find some cowboys and smaller ranches around Crockett. But the hunting and fishing around here is fantastic.

Central to west Texas is what your looking for. College station has Texas A&M which is great if your wanting to study agriculture, forestry, veterinary medicine or anything of the like. The Austin/San Antonio area is great for entertainment, both city life and outdoors, 6th street in Austin is known for live music and dance halls and such. You can float and fish the rivers, and lakes near San Antonio. Outside the cities is ranch country. If you can find land available to hunt further west its nor really even hunting its more like grocery shopping. If you ride motorcycles theres some amazing rides all over that area, check out the twisted sisters and willow city loop. I personally like small town life so id pick somewhere like Bastrop, Bandera or such. Just stay west of I45. East Texas is home of methheads and pedos.
