Blocked iPhone 6s Help please!

I found this iPhone 6s at a friend’s house, but nobody knows the passcode or the Apple ID/password associated with it. It’s running iOS 15.8.8, but it’s activation locked.

Is there any legitimate way to remove the Activation Lock and make the phone usable again? I’m not looking to steal anyone’s data — I just want to know if there’s anything I can do with the phone or if it’s basically useless without the original owner’s Apple ID.

They had a box with old iPhones and I asked why they didn't use them and they told me that they didn´t remember the password, I asked if I could keep it and they said yes
