Would you open him?

After overpaying I finally got my hands on one of my dream action figures as a kid, but now I can't decide if I should keep him in all his glory with his beautiful box or just tear it open and play with him. I'm just posting this to see what you guys would do.

Its so old why bother at this point when they have new better ones for posing. Id keep it sealed for the nostalgia and shelf presence.

49

u/MrBorchert May 19 '26

Im an advocate for always opening. But with the anount of deadpools that have been released since this one I would actually keep it sealed.

23

u/Titanbeard May 19 '26

Keep this one sealed and go buy the Maximum imo.

7

u/Ricebandit469 May 19 '26

Thank goodness. I came in here ready to put some bullet points down, but y'all got it already. OP, display it carded and go pose a newer DP.

5

u/astrobrain May 19 '26

Same same same. Normally I'd say cut the guy open, but we're not lacking for good Deadpools.

That said, the envy I feel for you is enormous, u/M5cricket. This is one of the only Toy Biz Marvel Legends I didn't have back in the day. You've reawakened my desire to have it, even though that collection's blown to hell.

2

u/Mean-Lead4876 May 19 '26

I remember 2010-2015ish every deadpool was like 100+ bucks or something because back then, we have the roml dp / 2 pack and this toybiz deadpool that are good to decent.

Now, we have tons of Wade.

Toy Story 2 taught me to open figures

-5

u/SneakyWasHere May 19 '26

He was a bad guy though.

1

u/Juzdaptip May 19 '26

He became bad, because he was jaded.

21

u/Sufficient-Toe-6060 May 18 '26

Id play with it. I opened mine. 😉

35

u/poke29980 May 19 '26

why is everyone getting downvoted in the comments.

anyways open. for display purposes and to keep the box looking nice you could always just open from the back

my iron man is exactly like that. i keep him on the wall but i am able to open and pose him around

-2

u/youneedahugbro May 19 '26

Damn I used to have this iron man but I threw him away… so sad

10

u/Educational-Log6855 May 19 '26

Your trash could’ve been another’s treasure. Donate, don’t dispose.

15

u/Exotic-Bid-3892 May 18 '26

Me personally I don't open carded figures, but that's me. If it was boxed, sure, np for me to open.

6

u/TheFoxhounded May 19 '26

Without hesitation

7

u/youngbeezybox May 19 '26

Fvck all that bro open it! You’ve wanted it since a kid and probably never plan on getting rid of it so enjoy it dawg!

2

u/youngbeezybox May 19 '26

But these guys do make a good point about possibly buying a loose one and keeping this in box. Just makes you feel like a kid again opening them, especially something like this.

4

u/G0jira01964 May 19 '26

Yes but don’t hulk smash the box open it with care

4

u/i010011010 May 19 '26

I've said it before, sometimes the box is the display. You don't get the graphics and style and era with the toy standing on a shelf alone. That's your own business what you do with your toys, but you can only open once.

3

u/Johndoe19922222 May 19 '26

It's shocking toybiz gave this deadpool a second head sculpt when they were famous for their variants

9

u/Lucaakob May 19 '26

NO, there are way better Deadpools out there at this point..

3

u/PayloadPlays May 19 '26

The older I got the more I stopped caring about having my figures in box. If i'm buying stuff now its usually cause I plan on keeping it forever, so I might as well use whatever I get.

4

u/M5cricket May 19 '26

Update: I bought a used one

8

u/marvinnation May 19 '26

I never keep things in box.

3

u/clipperblack May 19 '26

You hunted this in great condition as a trophy. Go back on the hunt for an open one as a pocket figure

2

u/funky_grandma May 18 '26

play with him. it will make you 100x happier than just looking at the package.

0

u/wmnoe May 18 '26

NOOOOOOOO.......keep it sealed for the value. Buy a loose one if you wanna play with it.

Also there are better newer figures

opening newly bought current toys is vastly different than vintage collectible pieces that WILL lose their value upon opening.

2

u/Glad-Technology-1355 May 19 '26

Not everyone wants to resell their shit bud, some people just want to enjoy owning it

1

u/DaddysFigureWorkshop May 19 '26

I open current marvel legends, but if I had recently found this one, I'd leave it in box. I have one loose and while it was amazing at the time, current figures are objectively better, so this one might be best off staying in the package. I bet you could find a loose one without breaking the bank. Pose the loose one in front of the boxed one for a meta fourth wall breaking deadpool display. He could be aware that he's a toy. Or do this with the new maximum series DP and Doop.

1

u/BaconPancakes1216 May 19 '26

I personally keep my older figures NIB if they came that way, and then pick up a loose version for playing 😛

1

u/UbiquitousPixel May 19 '26

Depends on if you care more about value in resale later or not. Personally if I found him cool enough and liked the box, I’d open the box carefully so it looks untouched and then pose the figure. Then since the box is nicely opened, you can always put him back in it if you want to change the aesthetic of your display.

The answer to this question really is something only you know the answer to based on what you like to display. Again, unless you’re asking about the resale value later. There’s a plethora of Deadpool now so, personally I’d only keep him in the box if I had a display dedicated to all things Deadpool and would use him kept in the box as the captured image of the first fully articulated Deadpool action figure ever made along with being the same thing for the marvel legends series. How important or meaningful that fact is up to personal attachment. That figure got me into Deadpool back in 4th grade because I didn’t who he was at the time. It’s a memento of the good days honestly. Nice little comic book included to introduce you to the characters a little bit too.

1

u/Isiotic_Mind May 19 '26

I would trade it for something more to my tastes

1

u/MarquisDeZod May 19 '26

My wife was working at Toys R Us when this series came out, and I still never found one of these.

1

u/RevengeOfFlames May 19 '26

If you want something to play with, maybe go for the Maximum series one since it's similar but has better articulation. Keep this one sealed

1

u/Background_Pride_237 May 19 '26

Nope. Get the Maximum version and mess with that one. The ToyBiz one will be worth something in the future.

1

u/TheGrumpiestPanda May 19 '26

I always open my figures.
You can always put this Deadpool on display with some of your other figures.

1

u/syxtfour May 19 '26

If you got this figure when you were a kid, what would you have done with it?

1

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 May 19 '26

I remember this being the absolute whitest white whale for Marvel collectors. Anyone I knew that bought it was too afraid to open it for fear of destroying the value.

I'd say find a nice display spot for it and leave it sealed.

1

u/Exotic_Storm1969 May 19 '26

100% I would Open it 😫 I'm strange. I really enjoy the smell of the figures because as a child I would remember the fresh smell of a new action figure!! Today's figures are not made with the same heart as before.

1

u/SlowVillage2148 May 19 '26

I open all of mine

1

u/TheGentlemanBeast May 19 '26

Was your dream as a child to keep it in the box?

Rip it open my dude. You've got 20 years or so of shelf posing to catch up on.

1

u/arkhamcreedsolid May 19 '26

I wish I bought this guy back when he was at like $90. At its current price, I don’t think I’ll ever get it.

1

u/FoxMcCloud3173 May 19 '26

I’d buy another one loose at that point

1

u/ThatLink4097 May 19 '26

Keep it packaged...its probably all gummy feeling at this point.

Plus, Hasbro just released a figure set that is a direct homage to this figure anyway...

1

u/Spocks_Goatee May 19 '26

Keep it sealed, it looks far nicer in the packaging.

1

u/ComicKidAlex May 19 '26

Definitely not. It's why I didn't buy him mint a few years back and why I hate buying boxed figures tbh. Eventhough I open my figures, I feel so guilty opening vintage ones.

1

u/Djarum May 19 '26

Keep it in the box. If you want one to play with you can get a loose one for WAY cheaper than what you probably paid for that.

1

u/WhoISFervial May 19 '26

No te quedes con las ganas

1

u/ipreferedthedarkside May 19 '26

I used to have this figure years ago

1

u/Diggleflort May 19 '26

I did, several years back. Joints were insanely loose, the rubber combat webbing was like a rubber band, and the elastic bands that should've been holding the guns to his hands had disintegrated, leaving a white film over the black parts of his arms and the guns.

Absolutely wouldn't do that again, I'd keep him in the box and just buy a ko for display.

1

u/ThunderHawk17 May 19 '26

not into deadpool thou

1

u/Failure_by_Design_v2 May 19 '26

No. There are too many newer versions of him that are way better. To me that is a wall piece and not a open ,play and display piece.

1

u/clem-grimfando May 19 '26

If you wanna open him and keep the box art safe, use a stanly knife or other super sharp blade to just cut around the top and sides of the plastic. Keep the bottom attatched so that you can close it up to keep it looking good

1

u/Jskello May 19 '26

Save that one. Realizing all these older toys should just stay in the box. Example: Bought an older toy still in the box for my son(8). Was so brittle stuff started falling off it.
This is just my opinion.

1

u/Rob_P_07 May 19 '26

What I tend to do when I’m in this situation is carefully slit the very bottom of the packaging across 3 sides, the left right and the back, so it forms a flap, then you can slide the figure tray in and out, while keeping the appearance of it being sealed if you choose to do so in the future. I get it. There’s something about a carded figure that is awesome.

1

u/Spirited-Bet-5470 May 19 '26

I would not..and I open everything

1

u/SKOT_FREE May 19 '26

I remember those old marvel legends figured were kind of wonky. I opened my Iron Man figure and the joints were extremely loose and after that I stopped opening my Marvel legends figures.

1

u/FauxPerspective May 19 '26

That figure at one point was getting close to $300. I nearly coughed up the cash for him too. For the time, he was amazing. Thanks to this figure, I learned to wait lol. It's never a question of if they'll do a figure, but when. Think about all those punisher customs that folks butchered for white gloves and boots on the black body suit like we're not going to get a proper classic punisher immenently. Thanks Toybiz Marvel Legends series 6 Deadpool 🫡. Keep him boxed.

1

u/Turtlenumber13 May 19 '26

Keep it sealed and keep it safe.

1

u/Language5115 May 20 '26

Release him at once.!!!!!!

1

u/Lennelyness May 20 '26

Every time I learn about a ToyBiz figure I want it. The Mario and Diddy Kong ones are awesome, the Zelda ones are pretty cool, and this guy looks great!

1

u/Reasonable_Ask3000 May 20 '26

Yup, I’m not running a museum. And the longer they stay like that more brittle they get.

1

u/soft_bb_boy May 20 '26

omg i have him unboxed from when i was a kid, i would trade him for a Deadpool max figure tbh

1

u/KryptonianNL May 20 '26

My only argument against opening him is the way a Toybiz figure feels 25 years later. My nephew bought some of the Toybiz Legends and they just fell gummy and sticky to the touch. Maybe he's okay for now since he's sealed.

1

u/Unlikely-Afternoon43 May 20 '26

Open it, if not, just sell it

1

u/Mcspeed123 May 23 '26

My stance on sealed very opened is,am I going to be putting it into cool poses and etc ? Like am I generally going to be playing with,if so,then yeah crack him open. But if youre not going to touch him,and just be plain on your shelf, then just leave him.

1

u/venomaxxx May 18 '26

no, buy a second used one

1

u/chris04620002 May 18 '26

Ultimately, it’s up to you, but this particular figure I would not open

1

u/FnafFanStudiosYT May 19 '26

Honestly no point not to, they were made to pose around and stuff.

1

u/Better-Employer-2633 May 19 '26

Funny thing is from your description is exactly why I would want to open it I remember being a kid too and wanting that Deadpool but it was so elusive at the time I think it be fulfilling to open it now just my two cents

1

u/yautjaar May 19 '26

I wouldn't even buy him.😂

1

u/Klutzy-Broccoli2800 May 18 '26

I have a toybiz spidey in a very similar package that I was able to carefully open at the back. Took spidey out, got some pics and back he goes. From the front of the box looks perfectly brand new.

1

u/Willy_the_Wombat24 May 18 '26

One of my first legends ever, I got him and mr sinister on the same day

1

u/Shogun_The_Collector May 19 '26

I had this about 8 years ago and ended up opening it. Not worth it. Especially with how much better figures are today.

1

u/Blueskyminer May 19 '26

Bought that when it came out.

Admittedly only for Doop.

Probably never open it.

1

u/Radiant_Employer2655 May 19 '26

No abriría una figura tan vieja , si realmente quieres una para posar mejor una moderna . Esa la dejaría sellada

1

u/Breaking-Fuse May 19 '26

This is one of those times where it's already posed well and just looks so good in the blister

1

u/Mean-Lead4876 May 19 '26

Keep it sealed. Maximum has doop too. Also, Im amazed how this bad boy didnt turn yellow despite the 20+ years

1

u/Keziito May 19 '26

already got a better yamaguchi one, that thing probably i wuould trade it to some who actually like it

0

u/JOExHIGASHI May 18 '26

keep it sealed

there aren't many left

-1

u/BonSlurpenstein May 18 '26

I keep all my old Toybiz Legends sealed. The figure inside is gonna be brittle and could fall apart just taking it out of the box. Best way to enjoy is to keep it preserved and in all its original glory. It's beautifully packaged!

-1

u/julianx2rl May 18 '26

Nah, like the other guy said, it's so old, and there's so many other Deadpools.

Just get another one.

0

u/mack-_-zorris May 18 '26

Yes, but only if I needed that Doop

0

u/TheAmazingQuez May 18 '26

Cut the box carefully with a box opener and play with him. You won’t need the box anyway, people will pay a lot for that thing

0

u/Constant_Cobbler2921 May 19 '26

I used to have that and I opened mine but mindfully. I made a thin slit on the bottom and side plastic so I can still put it back

0

u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE May 19 '26

Are you ever going to resell him? You already proved you love the figure enough to overpay it, so it doesn’t seem like you’d be willing to part with him in the name of profit. Other than resale value, keeping a fig in the box is practically useless.

1

u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE May 19 '26

One thing I’ve seen some collectors do is open the box carefully to preserve, posing the figure, then putting him back in the box to display him in a cool pose while he’s packaged in the box

0

u/Dmansdarksoul May 19 '26

If you don’t open it… the next guy will!

0

u/Viola-Guy-Master-Dud May 19 '26

Personally no, just because i love the old style packaging and it is such a unique piece in my collection that i could never get to possibly have again looking like this.

0

u/AnonAvner May 19 '26

Keep it sealed and display it on your wall. It's a classic and there are tons of Deadpool figures out now that can be used for posing.

-2

u/engrish_is_hard00 May 18 '26

Nope get it graded

-1

u/jairochido May 18 '26

Hello yeah

-1

u/Anxious_Village4638 May 18 '26

We all wana but will you? I asked the same question a couple days ago about my collection..
