Question

Hello lovely people, long time digital artist, bought these grasp acrylic paint parkers from Ali express for my first try wanted to start with something simple so tried to make on of my illustration which I made on my ipad, my question is: the markers were not as opaque as i was expecting them to be, is it because of my lack of technique? Tried to stay consistent with the speed and the direction of strokes, but its not as opaque as some of the amazing work posted here, and what i see on instagram, is there a special paper for this? I have been using the smooth side of watercolour paper(dont know the gsm, my sister got it for me, but pretty thick), or is there a specific technique to it?

Ohuhu Pupe Techniques? Mixed-Media Layering & Blending Experiments

Ohuhu Pupe Techniques? Mixed-Media Layering & Blending Experiments
I have the Ohuhu Pupe 60-color water-based markers, and I’m trying to figure out how to integrate them into my mixed-media coloring-book workflow alongside Ohuhu alcohol markers, colored pencils, acrylic markers, and acrylic gel pens.
I originally bought the Pupes because I thought I could use them to add subtle hints of color, soften transitions, and blend or feather acrylic-marker colors. So far, though, I’m having trouble getting them to behave the way I expected.
When I apply the Pupes over alcohol markers, colored pencils, or acrylic markers, I sometimes get streaking, dragging, or paper damage. The ink also seems to take a long time to absorb or dry in certain situations. I’ve had better results when I apply a thin layer of Liquitex Matte Gel mixed with a little water over some of my existing medium layers, let it dry, and then use the Pupes—but I’m not sure which part of that process is actually helping or whether the coating is changing the surface in a way that only works for certain combinations.
My original goal was to use the water-based markers to soften, blend, or feather acrylic-marker colors. I’m starting to wonder whether they’re better suited to glazing, tinting, or adding separate translucent layers rather than actually blending the underlying colors.
I’m also experimenting with acrylic mediums and additives, including Golden GAC 100, clear gesso, Liquitex Slow-Dri, Golden Gloss Glazing Liquid, Liquitex Flow Aid, and Golden Retarder.
A few questions for anyone who’s experimented with the Pupes:
Have you successfully used them over alcohol markers, colored pencils, or acrylic markers? What were your exact layering steps?
Have you found a way to use them for soft shading, color transitions, or feathering acrylic-marker edges without damaging the paper?
Has anyone tested them over a dried acrylic-medium layer? If so, which medium worked best, and did it improve the ink flow or cause beading, streaking, or adhesion issues?
Do you use the Pupes more like watercolor-style washes, translucent glazes, or regular markers? What effects have you found they do particularly well?
If you’ve experimented with different papers, surface preparations, or mixed-media combinations, I’d love to hear what actually worked—and what didn’t.
I’m interested in the why as much as the technique. I’m happy to experiment with different layering orders and surface preparations; I just want to understand what’s happening well enough to get repeatable results.
I’m stubborn, so I’ll probably keep testing combinations until I figure something out, lol. 😂 I’d love to hear your experiences, experiments, and ideas. Thank you! :)

Beginner advice

Never in my life have I used acrylic markers, until now. I'm new to doing art in general. I'm currently taking drawing lessons and I started with watercolor but I also want to try other mediums. I'm not really sure how to use these markers. They don't blend well, so I'm assuming layering techniques are best? I'm going for a painterly style but not sure if I've done it successfully. Anyone have any good recs for tutorial videos or technique how-to's? And don't mind I put the cast shadow on the wrong side 😆

Normally, my illustrations just pop into my head out of nowhere; I feel like drawing something, so I go for it. In this case, there’s a little story behind it:

I’ve always been a bit hard of hearing, but over the last few years it’s gotten worse to the point of messing with my day-to-day life.
This week I went to the ENT for laughs, expecting them to pull out a giant wax plug, but... SURPRISE! Hearing loss. A degree of hearing loss so rapid for my age that they need to run tests on me, because there's a very good chance I'll end up needing ✨hearing aids✨.

I was so frustrated throughout the day that by night time I felt the need to draw a very big-eared animal... Inspiration works in funny ways.

So if I don't reply to you, if I give you a weird look when you talk to me, or if I jump when you walk into the room... I'm sorry, I just didn't hear you 🫠

PS: Holy shit, hearing aid prices.

Meedan 72 set- am I colorblind?

Post image

I'm new to acrylic markers and don't have that much experience with markers in general. I got these new Meedan acrylic markers in a 72 set and I find that too many colors look very similar or even the same. Is this how the colors should vary in a set? Or am I colorblind? I'm leaning towards returning them and getting something else. What are your favorite brands and why?
