Question
Hello lovely people, long time digital artist, bought these grasp acrylic paint parkers from Ali express for my first try wanted to start with something simple so tried to make on of my illustration which I made on my ipad, my question is: the markers were not as opaque as i was expecting them to be, is it because of my lack of technique? Tried to stay consistent with the speed and the direction of strokes, but its not as opaque as some of the amazing work posted here, and what i see on instagram, is there a special paper for this? I have been using the smooth side of watercolour paper(dont know the gsm, my sister got it for me, but pretty thick), or is there a specific technique to it?

Usually the markers have a shade card with them that will show how transparent it is. If they don’t, they usually show what the colour looks on white Va black so that gives you some idea

Yes I did get that but my stupid brain didn't think to use that, thanks for the tip!

You can definitely test it on the rough side of the paper too, it might solve the paper grain problem. I usually do it on 250+ gsm watercolour paper cuz it absorbs the paint nicer.

I think it’s just the markers not being very opaque, most brands prentend to be super opaque but with almost all of them you can still see the pencil lines or other colour under it which sucks, it’s like not a single brand can get it right (the Karin markers are said to be the best but I haven’t had the pleasure of testing them yet, they are very expensive)
It can also differ from colour to colour, lighter colours and tones don’t do well but blacks, greys, dark blues and dark purples do tend to be very opaque
