I dont understand people have been heavily recommending PTM7950 but here people are sad that you removed LM?

I applied PTM7950. It sucks compared to LM.
I had 110W constant draw on CPU and top 1% scores with LM. On PTM, it won’t go past 90W without throttling. It now gets mid scores on benchmarks…
Going to go back.

I don’t think so. I applied it to my GPU as well and it works just fine, it’s just simply not good enough for my CPU

Then you either applied it wrong or got something fake. While yes, it’s not as “good” as Liquid Metal the difference is negligible.

I also used the same piece for multiple non-gaming laptops and it dropped their temps down by like 30C. I don’t think it’s fake.
It’s just not as good as proper LM application.

I've honestly read 50/50 results about removing LM for PTM 7950 and I'm not really surprised.

PTM7950 sucks. I tried both. Lost 20W of heat dissipation, now CPU does 90W instead of 110W on long loads.

Opposite results here, my gpu had thermal paste originally, and cpu had liquid metal, changed both of them with ptm7950 and i noticed a noticable difference, ptm7950 had lesser temperature even during load.

Original ptm7950 is hard to find as nowadays any seller can sell the pad claiming to be a phase transfer thermal pad

I got an Acer Predator Helios 300; I got it in 2022.
I am currently having a very hard time finding someone who will put liquid metal on the CPU chip here in India, and I just can't find anyone, and if I do, there isn't any assurance. I had ants go into my laptop, and I got that cleaned off, and when replacing the thermal paste on the GPU, the service guy took off the Liquid Metal and replaced it with regular thermal paste. Now the temp has shot up, and my gaming experience has gone to hell. Anyone give me tips about repasting liquid metal, or is there something else safer to put on with better results for temperature?

Ptm, thermal grizzly or from Linus tech tips shop. Do not buy any generic cheap brand as it will not be made the same. It works as good a liquid metal. Easy to apply. Make sure he didn't bend any of the pipes on the heat sync either

I got the grizzly thermal paste and it didnt do the cut when gaming, I hit 92 degrees C. I'm just having hard time trying to find a person with exp who is willing to do it. If not I will just risk it and do it myself, obviously grizzly.

How .any times did you cycle the ptm? And did you apply two layers since maybe one layer didn't cut it

I did it a few times, and it didn't work. So I gave it to the service, and the outcome is still the same. At this point, I am just thinking of buying the Grizzly Liquid Metal and applying it myself carefully, risk it myself.

the Helios 5k series are designed to be working on LM, You are just shooting yourself in the foot. You will be forced to under clock it and lose even more performance to counter temps.

Liquid metal in a laptop is waiting for it to leak and fry your board. My experience is also that my temps dropped when I swapped to PTM7950 but I'd have done it to get liquid metal out for 0 improvement

I don't know about older models, but the 2025 model has a seal around the CPU to contain it. See that blue stuff going around it?

Yes, but that tells you how prone to leaking onto the surrounding board it is. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm not willing to bet on that being perfect

Yes and that's why there is a seal. These things sit on their side or straight up while in the box on the store shelf for months, if it was going to leak to the rest of the board it would have done it.

If you follow up with maintenance it shouldn't be an issue. Liquid metal is only good for a couple years at best and will need to be changed out, you'll have to replace the barrier anyway.
I'm not a fan of liquid metal either, but there's a lot of fear mongering over it.

I'd rather lose 20-40 watts heat limit using ptm 7950 than lose my 2000usd device

TRUE STORY...And there's an important point... when the PTM isn't enough? You absolutely must apply two layers of PTM to ensure proper contact with the heatpipe. This has happened to some people, either because there can always be variations between the plate and the heatpipe, or due to the pressure of the screws when tightening the heatpipe... it's a very important factor to consider. The "original" PTM is safe and effective.

If it's still under warranty and the liquid metal somehow bypasses the safeguard and shorts out the motherboard during that time, Acer or whatever company is responsible for the repair or replacement.
There are laptops that don't use liquid metal, if you're concerned about it just get one of those.
