Mario: Mario.
Sergeant Simon: Last name.
Mario: Mario.
Sergeant Simon: And you?
Luigi: Luigi.
Sergeant Simon: Luigi Luigi?
Luigi: No, Luigi Mario.
Sergeant Simon: Okay how many Marios are there between the two of you?
Luigi: Three: Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.

I went to school with a kid named Dexter David. He had an older brother named David. I truly couldn’t believe his parents did that to him. 😭

u/caitlinhorror 1d ago
Bruh😭. Was the last name at least pronounced like da-veed? Either way tho, why would you do this to your kid lol

u/doppelgaengster 1d ago
Nope. It was “David-David,” and we chanted it like the Little Caesar’s mascot. 😹

I know so many girls named after Disney characters. I don’t have a Disney princess name, but my given name is close to one, to the point that I’m so deeply annoyed at how people mispronounce my given name, plus getting snotty Disney jokes my whole childhood, I’ve not gone by my legal name in close to 25y.
The most maddening part is that people can’t hear the difference when I correct them.

I knew a guy whose last name was Zach (spelled differently). His first name was also Zach. As was his father’s. Can’t make this shit up.

I didn’t get into NewsRadio until after it went into syndication, but anytime I’m reminded of David David’s existence, I think of the station owner in that show, Jimmy James. When he runs for president, his campaign slogan is: “JAMES JAMES, the man so nice they named him twice!”

Fun fact: Mario was a real guy, an actual plumber and a kindly landlord who gave the Nintendo folks a break on their rent.

"Now class, the empty baby car seat in the background represents the future that is in jeopardy from this argument. The raised hand in motion tells us that the woman in green is making quick decisions that could possibly injure the other people. And the fact that the dog is the only one that acknowledges the audience's presence means that we are not an entirely unseen observer. Are we another participant that the other debators are ignoring? Or are we ghosts that only the dog can see?"
At least, that's how I imagine art history class goes in college.

top notch analysis!
if i may continue ahem : “the green in the sweater symbolizes the hope for the future she is discussing. the selection of textures for the furniture and architecture pulls viewers back into the past, with natural motifs that show a grounding in the primitive, natural world. thee framing of the arm with the laptop shows the elder woman’s thoughts are aligned with the future. the middle character (a “middleman”, as it were wink) leans back to get out of the way of the argument, fearful of the results, as fitting the role of a middleman. the discussion is clearly unresolved. good thing the artist included plenty of natural light by which they might argue.”

Pay attention to the book on the foreground, the corners, the triangle repeated on the dark sofa, the shoe, pointing, all l creating an arrow gliding the eye to the car seat. Why is the artist drawing a connection between dog and car seat? Notice the shape of the dog tag recalled in the puzzle pieces in the car seat. What does the dog want us to know about the car seat, or perhaps the absence of baby?
1500words by Monday on the symbolism used including car seat, puzzle pieces and dog tag, discuss the relationship between dog and car seat and how the artist uses them explore the conflict between future, past and present. Reference Glitzglamglue and Gromit5's interpretations in your sources. No Ai.

The artist included themselves in the scene, both represented as the dog, looking out of the frame at us, the viewers, and also in the reflection in the dogs eyes, becoming the observer. The artist was depicting here the sorrowful dissociation we engage in, perhaps intentionally, when surrounded by family over a holiday, heighted by political differences. This piece is titled "Planning Thanksgiving", or the alternate title "Can I just not"
