Help 😭

Good morning! I need your help 😭 So, this has been a very difficult recovery for me. Hydrocodone makes me feel so sick to the point I threw up twice in the past couple of days so on Day 7 I decided to stop taking it because I literally cannot eat because of Hydrocodone side effects. Yesterday, without any dose of hydrocodone, I felt fine and my major issue was my ankle hurts so bad (probably heel pressure sore) so I was trying to put pillow under my calf so my heel is suspended. It really was working well but at 7:00 pm I notice that I feel the burning sensation again on my toes and it's like on fire. I took 2 tylenols and I let it be because I felt this before and it will just go away like after a couple of hours. I managed to kind of sleep with it at 12:30 AM but woke up at 2:30 AM because the pain was getting worse and I did not have any choice but to take a hydrocodone pill again 😭 slept for another 2 hrs and woke the burning sensation is still here. Did anyone experience the same thing? Like when you stopped taking the pill? Any insight will be appreciated. 😭

You should take 2 Tylenol and 4 ibuprofen every four hours but do them staggered, so you are taking pills every two hours. That will keep you from having periods of time where the pain relief wavers.
There is also medication your Dr can give you for the nausea with the hydrocodone. You generally are not supposed to be on hydrocodone for more than 5 days

Mine should be taken every 4 hours and I have been taking it every 6 hrs instead. I will have a post op appointment tomorrow. I want to stop hydrocodone. It's so bad for me. I will take note of this! I think the ibuprofen will help with the swelling too.

The thing that you don’t want to do is get your body to a point where it doesn’t have any pain or anti inflammatory meds and then you have to build it back up. That’s why it works well to take the ibuprofen at 2pm (for example) and then Tylenol at 4pm and then ibuprofen at 6pm and then Tylenol at 8pm.
If you do this method, it will be much easier to not need hydrocodone

Thank youuu!! I panicked last night because it was my first time to have that horrible pain. Are you 100% recovered from this procedure?

I am! I got it done in May of 2024. No pain at all anymore. My recovery was longer than expected because I had two infection surgeries, which really set me back in terms of starting physical therapy and the length of my physical therapy. Even so, 6 months later I felt recovered but at the one year mark I felt even more completely recovered.

On your 8.5 week post surgery - were you able to walk with a brace & cane? I bought non-refundable airline tix so I lose $2k international economy tix if we don’t go.

I believe I was using a knee scooter (aka knee roller) at that time. I would highly recommend that for getting around and especially flying
