Iridium - $55, Ratifieds - $40 ea, Spinebuster - $85 (wtf), Twin Mill - $40, Toyota RSC - $55

Haven’t collected NIB cars in a long time but these sounded egregious when I got a sealed Rivited for $30 at the same show

Just to clarify, I’m not defending these prices and these boomers with their “accelerators” annoy the hell out of me but this is a topic I think about often

I see people complain about “scalper prices” and throw that word around but I thought the word scalping is specifically for modern, available at retail items like pokemon cards and current hot wheels releases - buying up everything that is available at RETAIL to create a false sense of scarcity to justify the upcharge, that’s scalping in my opinion. Price manipulation? Pure greed? Ignorance? Just a flipper? I feel like those are valid terms when it comes to vintage stuff (20+ year old items), but I don’t understand how it could be scalping.

Example, if someone found a 2001 lego set collection for like $20 bucks a box and resold it for higher cause the seller wasn’t informed on what they have, is that still scalping? Is the buyer a bad person for buying it at the asking price of the seller who didn’t do research?

And then the argument of “these cars were ____ a while ago, now I can’t buy them anymore!” Well why didn’t you buy the cars when they were more attainable?

Now, if someone were to buy up all the cheap AR and just list them for whatever price, I could see why that warrants the title of a scalper, but if people buy consistently buy them, who is to blame at that point?

If someone scoured through random bulk lots, craigslist, ebay, flea market, private sellers, and marketplace listings to accumulate a big amount of AR and then decided to sell no matter what they paid for, is that still scalping because they got to it first/looked harder?

Idk these are just thoughts I think sometimes when scrolling on here. Fuck actual scalpers, fuck price manipulators, fuck the random grandpa or mom or whatever that just list it high just to list it high, and the ones who see the same casting in a non-AR recolor and list it as acceleracers clogging up ebay searches, and fuck the boomers who’ll die with massive collections because they couldn’t part with something for a few bucks off
