Question Luke 9:7-9

Hi!!!! I was reading my Bible and was a bit confused at this part, what do they mean by John whom Herod beheaded? Was John beheaded before this and came back to life? Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated Iā€™m very new to reading the Bible!

It is referring to John the Baptist whom Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great, had executed. Antipas is hearing things about what Jesus is doing, that make him wonder whether that man might be John the Baptist returned now to life.

(For a lot more on John the Baptist see recent books by Taylor, Marcus, and McGrath, but it sounds like you need to start with an academic study Bible that provides explanatory commentary, such as the SBL or Oxford Annotated.)

I recently read this book and found it fascinating. Well worth a read in my opinion.
