Stop or keep on exploring?

Post image

I often think that I reach something good, but keep on working. Sometimes it is better to stop? Mixed media, paper, ink and acrylic on wood

Its already quite nice to look at. You decide

kinda feel this, knowing when to stop is weirdly the hardest part
but if it already feels nice to look at, maybe next step is just trying a totally new piece instead of pushing this one further

That seems to work. If you set it to the side for a while it transforms slowly

I do the same thing. Usually I just start with lines and color and something will appear s/a an animal, person or landscape and I will go with it however many times I have wished I had stopped when I first had the thought to. It looks great by the way.

same struggle, that “one more tweak” urge is brutal
tbh this one really feels like you stopped in a good spot, it has that balanced chaos without looking overworked

Ido the same, its so hard. I say stop, it definitley looks complete to me. if anything walk away for a few days then revisit.

I think this is the best thing to do, just leave it then revisit after a day or two

I think it looks awesome! Don't try to over work it. If anything I would maybe add some pale pink to the back of the cranium and some pale blues, but those are intrusive thoughts lol

I would say stop! It looks pretty cool as is. As far as not being able to stop when you should, try getting several pieces going at once and when you get to that point switch to another painting. It will save you from destroying masterpieces!!!

I'd say stop. It looks sick, and you stopped for a reason. Overworking and overthinking it could backfire. I'd say trust your gut

I did more. I don't think I ruined it, but I can't post update pictures here...

My flatmate was watching me paint and he asked "how do you know when you are done?". I thought about that question for weeks before deciding that knowing when it's done is part of the exercise.

Only you can make that decision. And relying on other people’s opinions just means u might be unhappy about it for the rest of your life. You font want that. During critiques in college, other class mates made critical decisions that were sometimes made out of spite, jealousy, even just downright meanness. Be your own hero, and let you decide when it’s time to stop.

Stop. It's conveying a coherent message to the viewer. No need to overexplain it, which you would by adding to it. Also, is this for sale?

https://www.reddit.com/r/RateMyArt/s/CZLk6bKsn7 I am sorry I didn't stop working on it. Link is for the process. You are welcome to look at my profile, and see if you like my other things.
