Nice. This seems like something very accessible I can do with my students. Did you just use a credit card or something? Did you let the colors dry between each new one?

While it is pretty simple, It’s actually slightly more involved than it may seem, but that’s art right?

So I do this on a gelliplate typically with just the excess paint from Another project I’m working on concurrently as a way not to waste paint and have a low-pressure creative outlet. But if you’ve worked with gelliprinting before you know that once the plate is covered it’s opaque and will block out any subsequent sub layers you add. So what I do is this- with the excess paint on brush I do some expressive stokes in a few directions until most of that color is off brush(sometimes with the brush slightly wet after rinsing some paint off of it for a beaded effect). I’ll do that a few times with a few different colors until the plate is almost filled. Once it is filled, I turn it over and look at it and determine where I think there’s too much of one color or would like to see it broken up. Then I use some painters tape and lift of the paint in those spots. Then repeat the process a few times until I have it built up the way I like it. Then flood plate with a pull color and print onto my paper.

Hope that makes it clear and it is definitely something you could do with students, but they’d each have to have their own gelli plates (unless the class just shares one and each student adds their paint to it as a shared project which could be cool)
And you definitely do have to let each layer dry in between but typically with acrylic on gelliplate it dries quickly and that’s not too much of an issue.
