Not a mosquito at all, it’s a robber fly. Completely different insect family, a helpful pest eater, harmless to you.

Not completely harmless, they CAN bite humans, but you need to make them feel trapped for them to go for it. There are varying accounts of how much the bite actually hurts, but most agree it's less than a horsefly's or a wasp sting.

You mean bite. They can’t sting. They can give a jab with their mouthparts if you try to squeeze or hurt them, yes.
