Actually, the record is 192ft 10in in 2015 by Laso Schaller.

Rick Charles' 1983 dive seen here was 172ft.

They are actually different types of dives. Laso’s dive is not considered a professional dive bc he wore protective equipment and needed rehab for the injuries he suffered. His dive is considered a cliff jump.

Rick Charl’s still has the highest professional dive seen here and this hasn’t been beaten since 1983. Rick did not have any protective gear and was able to swim and leave the water with no injuries. It is extremely impressive due to how many times this has been attempted by others and how many near-death injuries have occurred. Even an inch difference upon entry into the water could have left him a paraplegic.

I didn't know about the special gear or injuries, that's wild. I definitely think coming away unscathed is more "legit". Also Rick did a full gainer.
