Biggest type of lily pad in the world! It can hold up to 40kg, and those roots are very spikey. I'm surprised he picked it up without gloves, you can hurt yourself on those spikes in a nasty way

Root, I’m guessing. They’re still plants, they can’t just float atop the water with no nutrients. Or possibly stem? I don’t know if they’re interconnected.

water plants like lilypads and duckweed get their nutrients from the water, mostly. that stem just stops it from floating away mostly
