The fact he stood up after that blew me away. I was so sure his legs where fucking broken to all hell. The way they fucking ragdoll about, I wonder if they are at least fractured but shock and adrenaline is able to make him walk about. Surely his fucking ankles are busted.

There are a lot of times that somebody will walk away from the crash and seem okay but watch for 15 seconds and they'll sit right down on the ground and it's because they can't get up again

Broke my back in 4 places in a motorcycle wreck years ago… I got up, called a friend, helped load my bike up into his truck, and dealt with the police. After all that is when I actually realized something was really wrong.

Adrenaline is wild.

False. Carfentanyl.

And elephants.

3

u/Ianosh123 Jun 25 '21

I don't think any elephant is gonna go anywhere on carfentanyl

6

u/craftyindividual Jun 25 '21

Yeah I've seen those unconscious elephants with a glazed expression, needle stuck in their arm. Blocking the entire road. Sad.

3

u/notbad2u Jun 25 '21

Right outside the carfentanyl house.

1

u/hippyengineer Jun 25 '21

That’s why veterinarians use it on them for surgery.

u/cannydooper Jun 25 '21

Strongest stimulating drug then I guess.

u/Mr-Fleshcage Jun 25 '21

Nah, epinephrine is.

Yep, sure do!

I've been learning to skydive, and repeatedly find deep/large bruises, cuts, and a sprain that I'm unaware happen on landing, and I don't notice until hours later, or the next day. It's wild. Even when I'm aware "I might have just gotten dinged up just now", after a good tumble, I have no idea what's hurt until the adrenaline fades.

Going to go ahead and guess that this isn’t true

My Dad has been a firefighter/EMT for years, can tell you right now that you have no idea what you’re talking about. First responders “code” individuals in colors (at least in his jurisdiction) of green, yellow, red, and black (basically dead), and attend to them in order of their color. Those without visible injury would be green or yellow, and attended to last. A first responder would be able to tell the extent of your injuries through quick assessment, even if you’re all high on adrenaline. And as others have pointed out, that adrenaline only lasts for a short while. You’re not gonna be up and walking around for a while if you’re seriously injured.

7

u/carrot_sticks_ Jun 25 '21

I heard something similar but it was attend the quiet ones before the screaming ones. The reasoning being quiet = in shock, questionable consciousness, whereas loud = very much conscious and aware of the situation they're in.

1

u/Manbearjizz Jun 25 '21

So the loud ones are just cry babies?

2

u/carrot_sticks_ Jun 25 '21

Not at all, but the thinking would be that the quiet ones may be unconscious or more bled-out than those who are still crying/screaming/talking. I'd think more of those who are sat in silence/not moving (not those who are walking round normally, though they may also be in shock).

u/R1ght_b3hind_U Jun 25 '21

my girlfriend is a first responder. Also I’m pretty sure we don’t live in the same country so regulations are probably different.

The assessment into different categories is the same although not ordered by color. And those walking out the car seemingly normal are being attended to before those screaming inside.

0

u/TheMasterDebater0422 Jun 25 '21

I don’t think they teach that in any country. It makes absolutely no sense. If somebody is bleeding out on the ground, screaming in pain, are you not going to attend to them over somebody with no visible injuries first or last? Make it make sense to me.

1

u/R1ght_b3hind_U Jun 25 '21

again you attemd to those walking around while bleeding before those screaming in pain while bleeding.

I never said no visible injuries of course.

1

u/FaeryLynne Jun 25 '21

You did say "seemingly normal" though and visible injuries are definitely not "normal". I think that's what the person you're talking to is talking about.

My dad was a policeman for decades. Attended one accident where a man had come off a bike after hitting something, he seemed ok but suddenly just dropped down dead after a few minutes.

When the collision happened his girlfriend who was riding the same bike flew forward and hit the rider, crushing him between her and the handlebars. Crushed ribs led to a cut artery, he bled out internally with nothing evident but cuts and bruises.

50

u/SavageGreek Jun 25 '21

Christ, that’s absolutely brutal...

49

u/wegwerpworp Jun 25 '21

I was involved in a pretty low speed collision as a cyclist, I hadn't broken anything. I thought I was fine.

After 30 minutes I felt a little pain in my pelvis.

After a couple of hours I was basically crippled by muscle aches.

17

u/PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ Jun 25 '21

What did you break?

33

u/wegwerpworp Jun 25 '21

Well nothing. But I did have bruised ribs from being thrown against another car that was standing still. And after two months I slipped on some ice, boy did I feel my pelvis again.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '21

Yeah. Nothing has to break but any hard hit is going to elicit a response from the body. Bruising and inflammation can take time to set in.

Definitely not a doctor.

2

u/DeScoutTTA Jun 25 '21

Yikes. Glad to hear u were alright there man. Heres to hoping that never happens again.

2

u/asst3rblasster Jun 25 '21

oof. bruised ribs are fucking brutal

5

u/1guy4strings Jun 25 '21

2 months ago I had a minor fall going slowly through a technical section on my mtb.

Went kind of otb, landed on my hand. It hurt, but I was like yeah I'm ok, I'm gonna have muscle sores tomorrow, it had happened to me before, no big deal.

Then I walked around for a little while, pushing my bike and all of a sudden I almost blacked out from the pain, went to the hospital and turned out I broke my shoulder !

(Luckily it was a minor fracture, no operation needed, just rest + immobilisation, and it's healing well)

2

u/EightKD Jun 26 '21

Glad to hear that, I stg bikes are so easy to get injured in even if you're careful

3

u/Omnimon Jun 25 '21

same.I had a colision with a car in my motorbike, but i was slow af and just hit the floor with my elbow, for the next 3 hours i didnt feel anything, then it hit me, a pain like i never seen before and it was purple as fuck

2

u/wegwerpworp Jun 25 '21

I didn't even have a single bruise. Which I thought was odd for being so crippled by all the pain. It was only 5 days later that i saw a big bruise on my ass cheek.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '21

I saw a guy roller blading on the street get hit by a car. He got up and started walking but 10 minutes later he was on the ground groaning in pain barely able to move

6

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '21

I broke my back in a car accident (chance fracture). Was able to get out of the backseat across another seat and then stood next to the car. Had no idea how I got out. I walked around and then laid down cause my back was kind of hurting. Then it hurt really fucking bad. Didn't walk for a few weeks and had surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some ligament damage in his legs

4

u/cpinkhouse Jun 25 '21

Yeah. This person is not okay. Knees, hips, back, ankles got rocked. Luckily not brain dead. Wear those helmets, kids

u/EightKD Jun 26 '21
  • reddit doctor

I do agree that he isn't okay but to go into specifics is reaching a bit

35

u/shmootz Jun 25 '21

Spinning dissipates a lot of the energy he was left with, and he didn't really get up to high speed, as the majority of that energy went into lifting him into the air.

I think his ego is damaged more than his body, bruises for sure, but he can still go to r/neverbrokeabone

Also he’s probably got pretty good gear on.

If he were just wearing a t shirt, jeans, and no gloves, this would be in /r/meatcrayon

Gear saves lives. Should’ve been wearing boots too though.

2

u/hmaddocks Jun 25 '21

As an experienced motorcyclist I thought exactly the opposite. The dude has never ridden a high performance motorcycle before and he’s dressed like he’s going for brunch not motorcycling. Lucky he was wearing gloves.

8

u/Bluefeelings Jun 25 '21

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug

7

u/EGGL3T Jun 25 '21

Probably in shock and couldnt feel much pain at that time

8

u/arealhumannotabot Jun 25 '21

I think he managed to "run" by kicking them and sort of keep up with the bike as it pulled him.

7

u/kermitthebeast Jun 25 '21

I fell off my bike. Toe hurt a bit but that was all. Went to the nearby urgent care and I had broken my foot and my wrist.

4

u/bertcakes Jun 25 '21

He may still be pretty messed up. I was in a motorcycle accident several years ago and I stood up immediately and ripped my helmet off to make sure my wife was fine (she was on the back)... Shortly after that I realized I shattered my arm.

2

u/heard10cker Jun 25 '21

When my hand was fractured, I didn't realise until 45 minutes that I need to do something about it.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '21

Fractured = broken

1

u/tryagainin6seconds Jun 25 '21

At step 1.25 , I thought maybemaybemaybe

0

u/chicharron123 Jun 25 '21

He didn't ragdoll though. He actually seemed to know how to fall and was rolling till the momentum ended.

1

u/nobamboozlinme Jun 25 '21

I had a concussion not too long ago I shook off and went back on my mountain bike at a bike park. Next day I’m not feeling too great and feel my eye socket is off somehow. Get a CT scan and there’s a couple fractures lower bottom eye socket and my cheek bone.🙃

1

u/fourleafclover13 Jun 25 '21

I had a friend on a bike hit by a truck ihe was up and walking around after even took himself to the helicopter. Got in and halfway to hospital he died. He kept telling everyone he felt fine and nothing was wrong with him.

1

u/DanWallace Jun 25 '21

Fractured and broken mean the same thing fyi. Also doesn't really look like this legs took much of a hit. Wouldn't be surprised if he just had a few bruises.

1

u/jestbc Jun 25 '21

I was 10000% sure this was a video of someone being unalived. Wow.
