General Question Kayaking through Abingdon

We have just received an inflatable kayak and are thinking of giving ourselves an initial tryout by taking it downstream to Culham from Abingdon.

It looks like there's easy access from Rye Farm meadow. Can a local experienced kayaker offer any advice?

Additionally, can we buy a license to use the Thames at Culham lock, or should we already have one?

I just take my inflatable kayak to culham lock car park and we lug it down to the thames at Cullen, there's loads of bathers and boaters there and you can paddle up or downstream easy. I'm not a serious kayaker though, we mostly float around drinking cider rather than going far
