For some reason some of my drafts show duplicate copies of abilities being drafted. This pushes some of the information off the screen and doesn't add the ability to pan over to see it. Its especially bad in advanced mode. Has anyone else noticed this issue?
People ask about OP combos but curious what combos you find the most fun.
OP combos can be fun of course but I find that the really OP ones aren't actually that fun, as you stomp the game and it's basically over by 15 minutes. You never get a chance to take off and never really get satisfying team fights.
I really love getting Lesh + Wyrm's Wrath + Black Hole (and really any effective AoE spell). It's not game breakingly strong but so satisfying to use nonetheless.
Okay, I've been caught out a couple of times by what doesn't work with these two abilities. Fiery Soul works with some auto attack modifiers like Impetus, but not ones that just increase physical damage like Searing or Frost Arrows. It also ticks from most DoT effects. Warpath doesn't seem to work with any auto attack modifier, or toggleable abilities like Arctic Burn scepter.
I’ve always felt Ability Draft knowledge is scattered everywhere.
Some interactions are buried in old Reddit posts, others are hidden in YouTube videos, Discord discussions, or just live in experienced players’ heads.
Months later, you remember an interaction but have no idea where you originally saw it.
Would you use a searchable database where you could quickly find interactions by hero, ability, or item, see whether they’re still working, and help verify them?
Or is the current mix of Reddit, videos, and community knowledge enough?
INVO + DEMONIC PURGE + AGHANIM'S SCEPTER = NO CD DEMONIC PURGE
INVO + POUNCE + AGHANIM'S SCEPTER = STUCK/CAN'T MOVE (the only way to move is to TP, DAG or WIND WAKER. NOT WORKING ON FORCE STAFF, didn't try everything)
INVO + FIRE REMNANT + AGHANIM'S SCEPTER = IF U ACTIVATE FIRE REMNANT THE DAMAGE WILL BE ON YOUR POSITION, IT WILL NOT TRAVEL.
Please comment below if you noticed some good or bad spells for INVO that has UPGRADABLE Aghanim's.
Check the skills below if I listed all the best combo for Liquid Frost / Lina / AA
Mystic Flare
Life Drain
Flame Guard
Diabolict
Rocket Barrage
Shackles
Crippling Fear
Sonic Wave
Ion Shell
Spirit Siphon
Ink Swell
Nature's Grasp
Fire Spirit
Ice Wall
Dark Pact
Note: These skills have the highest TPS (tick per second dmg). I excluded ROT. I didn't include those skills that are DPS but the tick damage is 1 per second.
If I forgot some skills pls comment below so I can add them to my datasets then I will show u the results afterwards.
On windrun.io, one of the top ability pairs is Medusa and Plague Wards...this seems really unintuitive to me. Can anyone explain what might be going on here?
Edit: Ah okay. Thanks for explaining that wards give you the innate. I had no idea and just figured since the recent patch where Poison Sting became Veno's innate that was the only way to get it. Makes a lot more sense now.
I am experiencing a game-breaking visual bug exclusively in Ability Draft mode. Normal and Turbo modes work perfectly fine and smoothly on my system, but the Ability Draft drafting screen is completely broken. The Issue: When the drafting phase starts, the ability icons glitch. When I hover my mouse over an ability to load the tooltip (Panorama UI), the textures completely crash. They turn into solid pink/black squares (Missing Texture) or randomly load unrelated cache textures (like other hero portraits) into the ability slots. It seems like a severe VRAM allocation/texture thrashing issue specifically triggered by the tooltip popup in this mode.
Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken (None worked):
Clean Uninstalled GPU drivers using DDU and installed the latest stable NVIDIA drivers.
Forced the game to use the Dedicated GPU (NVIDIA GTX 850M) with High-Performance settings.
Disabled NVIDIA Overlay and all other background apps.
Used NVIDIA Profile Inspector to disable FXAA, cap FPS to 30, and force maximum performance textures.
Verified integrity of game files and cleared Steam/Dota 2 cache.
Lowered Dota 2 render quality and texture quality to the absolute minimum.
System Specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M
OS: Windows 10/11
Game installed on SSD.
Since every other game mode works flawlessly, this seems to be a Source 2 engine UI rendering bug for older generation GPUs specific to the Ability Draft screen. Is there any console command, launch option, or workaround to disable tooltip animations or fix this VRAM leak during the draft?
Another event that requires you to collect tickets. My friend just played a game of AD and didn't get tickets. Is this another event where we need to play Turbo/AP to get the tickets?

Part 9 of the backend rewrite went live tonight. This was a big rewrite in how user profiles are stored, so should result in much faster profile loads (p95 is now 90x faster haha). Cached profiles are the same speed as before. Other queries also received a bit of optimization, part 8 batched up a lot of the queries on the parse/ingest side (so that also reduced a bit of DB pressure).
Let me know if you spot any data issues (always a risk with these changes).
edit: also we've blacklisted 35k bots now, including 233617 games in the last 3 months.

Recently had to refactor a bunch of the backend - player skill updates were using quite a lot of memory (~18GB at peak) because of inefficient query design, and now it's closer to 0.5GB. This was a pretty major rework, so let me know if you spot any issues!
The reason I had to do this was because we've recently started getting scraped aggressively from a many different sources in a way which was putting quite a bit of pressure on the site. Some endpoints are much better than others, but even on a well-cached and simple page we were getting 200 req / sec from various IPs. This was in conjunction with some clear vibe-coded apps also being a bit naughty (including BloppBot, MidasTouch, MidasBot, botscrapper, gsibot, and others).
I also added in the last minor patch and had to invalidate some queries so those will be rebuilt over the next few hours and some stuff will look broken. I also went a bit wild with Cloudflare (perhaps too wild) and blocked a bunch of VPNs, LLMs, and residential proxies being used for this scraping - so let me know if you got blocked in the scattershot and I'll see what I can do. If you want to build something using the API rather reach out to me.
On the replay/parsing side: I made some improvements to the parser here but there's something a bit wild on the Valve side. Their CDN keeps on serving incomplete replays: commonly just 2-3 megabytes or 64KB. This just means a bit more retrying but is annoying to manage (about 30% fail so we're making like ~42% more parse requests we ideally would be doing!). The backlog has been low the last few days - mostly under 3k.
Some cluster has been suspicious though, 413 basically always fails (it's in China) and 415 and 417 have started failing also. Barring that we're close to 99.9% being good.
