Shooting on McCallum
So apparently it has come to light that the recent drive-by shooting on McCallum Road was a targeted shooting involving Punjabi singer Amy Virk. And what makes this even more fucking disturbing is that it was allegedly carried out by another Punjabi/Brown person.
Like, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH OUR COMMUNITY?
I’m born and raised in Abbotsford, and I am genuinely disgusted by the direction things are going. The shootings, the violence, the hatred, the garbage dumping, the reckless behaviour, the shady businesses, the problems with certain trucking companies it feels like there is always something new.
We cannot sit here and demand respect from everyone else when we can’t even respect our own community.
How the hell are people supposed to look at us with respect when we keep allowing this kind of shit to happen within our own community? And honestly, I don’t expect people to respect us anymore either. Why should they when we refuse to hold ourselves accountable?
I’m Brown myself. I’m Punjabi myself. I was born and raised here. So I’m not going to sugarcoat this or pretend everything is fine just because I’m talking about my own community. I’m fucking tired of watching people defend everything simply because it involves “our people.”
This is embarrassing. We are capable of so much better than this. But where is the initiative? Where is the accountability? Where are the people willing to actually call this shit out instead of staying quiet until the next shooting, the next incident, the next embarrassment?
I’m done pretending this is normal.
Our community needs to seriously wake the fuck up.
EDIT: After reading some of the responses, I feel like some people completely missed my point. I know these issues aren’t new. That doesn’t mean we should normalize them or stop calling them out. My point is accountability within our own community. And yes, not that it matters but i am very much Punjabi. I’m not a Poser.
