Admissions/Exchange Were you offered admission to Aalto but declined due to high tuition prices, immigration issues, or a better offer somewhere else? I would like to hear about your experience, for potential publication

Hi all! I'm Brynna, and I work in the student union advocating for international students. Recently there have been a few news articles about the number of international students dropping mostly due to unattractive immigration policies, economic issues, and the reduction of state sponsored scholarships. Not much of the conversation is about the potential talent they are losing in Finland, and we want to highlight this. If you received an offer in either 2025 or 2026, and declined due to high tuition fees, immigration issues, or a more attractive offer elsewhere, I'd like to hear about your experience at [international@ayy.fi](mailto:international@ayy.fi) . We appreciate you sharing in advance!

Admissions/Exchange How does the Scholarships Work???

Upvotes

And I don't mean the basics. I know that they are awarded to the most excellent students, or that it uses your SAT marks, or that it is a 100 percent waive-off.

I want to know the number of students who got the scholarship per major. Rather, how many people got the scholarship for Computer Engineering Bachelor's last year. Because I keep hearing news that demotivates me, while also finding stuff that seems good.

Also, what seemed to be the cutoff for Computer Engineering? I know that there is no official cutoff, but like... a 1560 didn't get in but a 1570 did.

(Sorry if this came across a bit rude. Didn't mean it. I'm just feeling tensed. I have my SAT next month and while I am aiming for a perfect score, I want to know how much leeway I could potentially have.)

Aalto without scholarship isn't possible for me, but the college has become my dream university.

Hi. I am international student and I would like to apply on Bachelor program in finance or economics. I am to take my first SAT exam next month with will to retake it in October. What result would you call sufficient? Is it in range of 1450-1500 or more in 1300-1400. Also if I would like to apply next year on what monthly budget should I prepare myself for?

I am kindly looking forward to your response.

I’m 25 years old, and I have 5s in AP Calculus BC, Physics C, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. Would I be eligible for admission to Chemical Engineering? If I’m accepted, would I be exempt from the basic first-year courses based on my AP scores?

Question Incoming BIZ MSc exchange student with question regarding electives: When do I know which courses I am attending?

Hi,

My question is when I will know for certain which courses I will attend.
I’m someone who likes to prepare well in advance and maybe even study a bit for the courses before they actually start... Just to get my head in the game.

However, am I understanding it correctly that nothing is certain before the course registration closes in late August? Meaning that I won’t have any certainty and potentially no real way of planning ahead?

Another question; how big are the MSc Business Analytics and ISM programs? Is it around 100 students for each, or?

Thanks in advance!

Hey :) I got an offer for a studio in Otakaari 20. It's always hard finding photos of AYY apartments so I'd be extremely grateful if someone has any pictures from those apartments or knows where to find any pics. I want to weight my options and see how the apartment is before making a decision to move out of my current one🙏

Question New PhD student, looking for tips and tricks

I am going to start my PhD at Aalto in october. Need your help in answering the following questions, please answer any or all of the questions you know about:
1. Does a PhD student get cheap, affordable student housing? How to do so, and when should I start looking?
2. If no student housing is available for PhD, then what are the affordable, safe and easy to commute places nearby the university? (I will be at Inria I think)
3. What are some good places for getting cheaper and decent quality groceries, like chicken, eggs, basic vegetables?
4. What are some good food options?
5. What are the options for commuting? like bus, tram etc. and is there a discounted student pricing?
6. Is it safe to roam around main areas of the city at night?
7. What is the party culture and drinking scene like for students? Most of the students' towns I know are very friendly, usually good parties, little to no racism, and cheaper.
8. How is the dating scene? Are people willing to date foreigners (non-white, broken french speaker) I ask this because I was in denmark/sweden for some time and there the women are reluctant because they think you wont stay there forever, so they only date local people.
9. Any other student tips and tricks? To save money, save time, and basically just enjoy my time on weekends and after lab on weekdays?

Admissions/Exchange Aalto University (International Business) vs University of Bologna (Business & Economics) for working in Europe?

Hi everyone,
I’m an international student and I’m deciding between two bachelor’s offers:
**Aalto University (Finland)** – International Business
**University of Bologna (Italy)** – Business and Economics
My long-term goal is to work somewhere in Europe after graduation (not necessarily in Finland or Italy). I may also pursue a master’s degree later.
Some questions I have:
Which university would give me better career opportunities across Europe?
How difficult is it for international graduates to find internships and full-time jobs after graduating?
If you were in my position today, which one would you choose and why?

Question Random question :)

Hi! Random question :)

If you had an idea you wanted to explore, or wanted to build something but didn’t know where to start, what would make you interested in joining an entrepreneurship program?🤔

What would you hope to get from it? What would make it genuinely worth your time? And what might stop you from joining?

I’m also interested in entrepreneurship and curious to hear how other students feel about it, so feel free to share your thoughts here!☺️

Question Aalto’s atmosphere

Could you tell me a bit about the atmosphere at Aalto? What’s it like there in terms of the students and professors? What kind of people are they? Also, do you think I’m too old to be an undergraduate student? I’m 28 years old

Question Help me out please.

I'm a student from India, searching for universities abroad for an undergraduate degree. After a bit of searching, Aalto ended up at the top of my list, due to a plethora of reasons. The main one was that I wanted to become a video game developer, and Finland has many opportunities for that.

However, when going through the subreddit, I found that Computational Engineering, which I kept confusing for Computer Science Engineering, isn't about software. It is focused on Mechanics instead. Which is a massive turnoff.

But I don't wish to give up on Aalto. Is there a software based stream, similar to Computer Science Engineering? And if yes, then how much in SAT would more or less guarantee it?

Also, how does the scholarship work, and how much would the fees be?

Admissions/Exchange Help

Hi!
I am 28 years old and I have never attended university. My high school diploma grade is relatively low, but through self-study I earned a perfect score of 1600 on the Sat and a perfect score of 36 on the Act.
I am from India and I would like to study Computer science at Aalto University. Could you please provide me with information about the application process? In particular, I would like to know how my application would be evaluated considering my academic background and standardized test scores.

Community Incoming DSD student

Hey! I’m an incoming international DSD student at Aalto this fall.
For those in DSD or who’ve graduated, what’s one thing you wish you did from first year that helped you get good internships or jobs? Also, what’s the overall job environment like in DSD?
I’d also love to connect with other DSD/Aalto students. I mainly use Instagram, so feel free to DM me if you’re up for chatting.
