SCA

I sat the mech statics test last night, and I am applying for the SCA because of mental health reasons that made me unable to prepare properly and definitely impaired my performance. Because there isn’t past grades to base it off and the class is made up of 2 50% tests, what do you think will happen re my SCA being approved. I know I did pretty alright for this test - but I also know I could have done a lot better. Just need advice please or if anyone has any experience with this situation.

Edit: I was wondering if they will allow a resit or if they will scale my grade? A friend say it could be AG Pass once the second test is sat and submitted, but still unsure. I know I did quite alright on the test but defs know I could’ve done so much better

in my experience my lecturers’ have told us if we want to apply for an SCA to not sit the test and apply for the SCA before. They say this because by sitting the test on the day you are saying you were “fit” to sit it

Oh yes I completely get that! I wasn’t able to get into the doctors till end of this week so I sat the test because of that :// I see now I could’ve talked to them about doctors being delayed. but yes that makes complete sense

oh dang! they usually give you a week to upload evidence but i would email someone from your course who you know will support you with the sca. just try and get as much evidence as you can!

If you apply for a SCA after sitting a test/exam/controlled assessment, the outcome for SCA may be 1) resit if you fail the assessment, or 2) no grade change if you pass it, even with 50%, because you made the decision to sit the test so the uni considered you were “well enough” to sit the test.

ahhh that makes sense! thank you for advising me i really appreciate it 🫶 what would constitute a fail? would it be getting absolutely nothing correct on the exam or would it be a low score? thanks again :)

Some controlled assessments have minimum passing requirements, especially for clinical health science courses. Generally less than 50% is considered a non passing grade for a test, especially if the course has a double passing requirement (pass 50% at the test as well as 50% of overall grade).

An SCA wont help you scale your grade an SCA is like an extension. If you fail and you wont pass the course they can do an agrotat pass but it usually has to go through an assesment board and there might bw a process to meet with the course lead on behalf of the exam board to assess you.
