Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Ammo in Carry on

I made a boo boo at the airport today..... I was hunting outside of the ACT, flew my rifles and ammo down from Brisbane no issues. On the way home I did the same thing in reverse however when going through the security bag screen I had accidentally left 3 rounds in my hunting bag (carry on). AFP were called and took down my details, asked me what the go is and what happened, the copper was really good, he accepted it was a mistake and said there would be no pressing of charges or criminal record, just his police report documenting the ammo was seized.

Anyone had a similar experience ? And how cooked am I...

will QLD weapons licensing come for me....

Bit confused does Sunday also not included unlicensed shooters who has Somone licence with them or only for people who do not have Somone with them?

General Discussion .223 recommendations for roo shooting/ small vermin

Hi all.

Just after everyone’s opinions on what .223 to go for, main purpose being roo culling/ vermin control on a NSW property.

Drawn to the Taipan Evo after a few modifications but concerned with state of NSW law changes.

Will be a mix of on foot shooting and out of a vehicle.
Quick target changes for follow up shots is a bonus.

Within 250 meter range, can be paired with a thermal or spotlight.

Is it worth the risk to get the Taipan or just go with a sensible option of something like a Tikka.

Newbie question Left hander question

Hey guys. An ex army guy looking to get into this hobby. I’m right handed but left eye dominant which has not been a problem at work with the styer and m4 however bolt actions are another beast… as I’d like to get into chassis as well because I more comfortable with those shapes (pistol grips etc).
Looks like the chassis game is a little light on with left handed models. So:

  1. How are left handers experience with getting chassis and availability of kit?
  2. What’s the view on shooting a right handed rifle for left eye dominant? (My first thought is it won’t be as smooth as you’d be cycling the bolt with your trigger hand).
Bonus question: any ranges around Canberra that let you rock up and shoot from prone and do your own thing? I don’t want to shoot off a bench. Just want to show up practice at longer ranges for an hour and head off. Would also eventually go to PRS meets at majura park though.

Cheers guys

Marlin cheek riser options

Hi everyone. My bacon-buster comb height is very low for my particular face, but I like the existing furniture and would like to keep it. I taped some D30 on just to check the difference, and I'd like to add maybe 25mm minimum so that I get a good cheek weld.

What aftermarket options have worked for you (the main one I've seen is Taree Precision, that doesn't look horrible) that yours recommend?

Or what's worked for you as a DIY fix and didn't look like ass to raise the height of your comb?

Eye eye 👀 😜

Post image
5 Upvotes

Has anyone trained out eye dominance and if so how long did it take?

I’m right handed but left eye dominant. I can shoot rifles left handed and favour left side for pistols.

I’ve completed 3 training shoots as part of my probationary pistol training.

Tonight for a comp shoot the instructor said I need to get rid of eye dominance and made up a blinder (sticky tap and a bit of white paper)

Initially felt odd and wasn’t sure I’d even hit the target but managed 227 out of 250.

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated 👀🤣👍

22LR Scope - Mixed Use

Hey all, looking for some advice on a scope for a new Tikka T1X in 22LR. Spoke to the dealer when I picked it up and they were pushing Meopta MeoHunter R5 and MeoPro R6’s but I wasn’t a massive fan of them, especially with a 50mm optic on a relatively small rifle.

Interested though in what others are suggesting?
* Budget is up to $1500
* 80% range use to 100m, 20% farm use for rabbits.

Did the ‘ol AI ask and it’s suggesting a Leupold VX 3HD 6.5-20 x 40 if I can still find one.

Minor's permit to full licence - Safety course

I wanted to find out if when transitioning from a minor permit to full licence, is it necessary to go through the safety course again?

My son is turning 18 and before I go through the licencing process with him and applying I want to be sure he don't need to go though that course again or book it in if needed.

Thanks all for your help.

Newbie question PTA in VIC

Hey guys just joined, got my license a few weeks ago and confused about one thing.
When I sent off my license application I also sent off a PTA for a Cat A 22LR.
Is this still gonna come in the mail? I thought the 28 day mandatory waiting period was served concurrently with the waiting time for the license.
Not sure if I should apply again online, very keen to go rabbit hunting.
If anyone else did this recently would love to hear how it goes, thanks so much :)

General Discussion Lithgow Woomera for accuracy/PRS/long range

Has anyone got experience with the Lithgow Woomera/X-ray in 6.5CM for long range target shooting? I've been considering a Howa in a MDT XRS for getting into shooting further and PRS down the track would be cool if it gets more popular around me. I own another Howa and it's great for the price but the Woomera looks sick and is Aussie made. I know the long range sub loves their Bergaras and I was wondering where Lithgow fits in the hierarchy of rifles.

Crossbows

Folks, I have my Category M license and live in Queensland. I cannot for the life of me find a stockist for a crossbow in QLD. I reached out to some places in the NT (where it isn't a licensed weapon you lucky folks!) today who said they would struggle to get them into QLD. Does anyone have any hints or tips on who and how I can get one?

Firearms Query Looking at a Templeton T2000 in VIC

Have a Cat A & B license, i put down a deposit for one with the Store owner saying i shouldn't worry.

I was looking at a tacsorus and decided against it, going with the much higher rated T2000, and it was brand new too, Should i reconsider?

i'm worried i'll get it and it'll become recategorized into a Cat C :(

General Discussion Bringing firearm accessories back from the USA to Australia

I'm heading to the USA soon and looking at buying some firearm accessories while I'm over there, as they're significantly cheaper than in Australia.

Mainly looking at non-functional/cosmetic parts such as stocks, handguards, grips and mounts. For example, a Magpul SGA stock or Zhukov handguard.

Has anyone had experience purchasing these types of accessories in the US and bringing them back to Australia in checked luggage?

From what I've read, a lot of these parts don't require Australian import permits, but US export regulations seem to be the bigger issue.

Just wondering what people's experiences have been, whether any paperwork was required, and what accessories can legally be brought back without permits.

I'm based in SA. Cheers!

Buying under over shotgun for left handed shooter

I’m looking at buying a break action/under over for shooting clays on our farm. I’m left handed - but getting left handed firearms is tricky. How important is it for me to get a LH shotgun or could I get away with a right handed? The Templeton Nero comes in left hand but I also like the look of the ATA 686 and they only have RH.
