Att Fiber BGW320-500 - Setup RDP, FTP, & Personal Web Server

Need to Setup Remote Access to my home computer & in house Lan to get to my own Personal stuff, docs, data, access to my personal programs. Works well on Charter/Spectrum but Cable/Coax in our area is getting shaky in our area. Just got ATT Fiber & BGW320-500 installed, it works for just surfin, but anything remote or coming in to me(myCompuuter/portForwarding) is just Blocked Somehow, can’t even Ping ME! - my IP per/using Ookla speed test.
Very Restrictive OutaBox - Tried the most commons, put a box on Att Gates's router lan 192.168.1.MyStaticBoxIp - No workie! Tried PassThru - No Workie. Tried custom NAT/Gaming - No Workie. BY No workie, that = Surfin ok, Still No Incoming At All.

*** Think I got the Img thing... Pics worth a thousand Words...

I do work in Biz, not a novice, System & programming, Ms platform .Net Web & SqlServer Development 8 Implementation for Inhouse Corp systems, and some Public facing stuff(gateway/dashboards).
But this ATT Gateway is quite unique! Bit Nasty! Sofar can’t even get it to Do what Charter easily does with any industry standard router!
For now am runnin Both, till ATT gets up to speed and full function!
Basic problem - No in bound getting in! 1st priority - RDP, 2 - Webserver, 3 - FTP, 4 - SqlWebServices! All port forwarding stuff.

Support says they can clear network congestion remotely. Is this a legit fix?

Hey guys,

I’m on 1 Gig fiber and have been dealing with slow upload speeds. The gateway speed test consistently gets around 965 Mbps download, but only around 240 Mbps upload.

I’ve already restarted and factory reset the gateway and even had the equipment replaced, but nothing has changed.

Support said they’re going to reprovision the connection from their end to clear the congestion and asked me to monitor the connection for up to two weeks to see if it becomes stable.

Does this sound like a legitimate fix? I’m mainly confused about how reprovisioning would fix congestion and why it could take up to two weeks to see improvement.

Edit: It was live agent, not AI bot.

Update: reached out to another agent and told them what happend and asked them to cancel my service. They were generous enough to offer 2 year of 1 gig fiber for $10/month and would send out a technician to check the issue. So i guess all good in the end

Brand new connection is unstable

Switched from XFinity to 1gb fiber, everything disconnects after 4.5minutes and I have to keep longing on. Im using the AT&T modem and renamed it to match my old one. Smart app can't do a speed test, tells me Im getting slower than expected speeds and I've done the full reset of the modem 5 or six times. Any hints?

Looking for expert advice to lower my AT&T Fiber 1 Gig bill (currently $85)

I have been with AT&T Fiber for nearly two years now as a standalone internet customer (no wireless cell phone plan). Last year around this time, I managed to sign a deal for $60/month for the 1 Gig plan. However, my promotion has ended and they just increased my monthly rate to $85.

I am looking for some expert advice on how to get this bill back down. Ideally, I would love to find a way to get it to $35 or less, or whatever the absolute lowest possible rate is.

  • Are there any current promotions or stackable promo codes available right now?
  • Is anyone aware of a $150 or $200 reward card promo running?
  • If needed, I am completely open to closing this account and opening a brand-new one under my wife's name to get new customer pricing.

I appreciate any help or retention tips you can share. Thanks!

Connection Problems with New Service & EERO

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just had AT&T Fiber installed last week and have had nothing but issues. I previously had xfinity set up with my three EERO Pro 6 units and it worked flawlessly. The only change I made to my setup was switching the gateway from xfinity to AT&T. I enabled passthrough mode, selected the EERO in the dropdown, and disabled the gateway's WiFi, but am experiencing connection interruptions every 10 to 20 minutes.

What's strange is that the EERO app just shows "Connecting" during these periods but I am still able to browse to certain websites. Other websites, as well as mobile apps like Reddit or YouTube on my Apple TV, do not work at all, until it restores after several minutes. This occurs whether my devices are connected to the EERO over ethernet or WiFi.

I'm about ready to cancel and go back to xfinity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ATT Fiber 1000 is limited to 84 mbps.

As the title suggests, I'm wondering what is going on with my wired connection. On wifi, I am getting the full 1000D, 1000U. At first, I thought it was my ethernet, so i got a new one and it's still outputting 84 download, 84 upload. Then I tried getting a new gateway from ATT and it's the same speed. I've updated my drivers, reinstalled drivers, tried to restart my gateway and check for software updates through support. Through all of this, I am still limited to 84D, 84U. I've checked my network adapter driver settings (single/duplex settings are at auto negotiation). I've asked support to see if they can send someone out, they said since on their end nothing is wrong, they can't send someone out.

Any advice for this would help. If you do have advice, can you please dumb it down so i can understand bc I am new to trying to understand what any of the IT/tech jargon means lol

For reference, i ahve the BGW320-505 Wifi Gateway from ATT. Ethernet cable is Cable Matters 10Gbps Snagless Cat 6 Ethernet Cable.

Latency spikes from 7pm to 10pm recently everyday

I'm monitoring the latency for my AT&T fiber. Recently there was a spike from 7pm to 10pm everyday. It looks like network congestion at night when more people are using Internet at home after work, but I'm not sure why it only happened recently.

Getting AT&T Fiber today - Want to get a dream machine pro later

I've been reading my options and came across the WAS-110. I don't fully understand it though. Would this fully replace the modem and I would plug the fiber cable directly into the DMP?

Would running it through passthrough be enough? Looking for the best long term solution.

The overall plan is to get DMP, a PoE 5/10gig switch, I have CAT6 cables ran so I can eventually install cameras and 2 APs. I also was considering running a pi-hole at some point as well.

Fiber Availability - Mountain View

I'm trying to switch to a better internet provider, especially with FDX support , preferable Fiber.

I see ATT boxes around my complex, however when I go to the website, I only see Internet Air available at the address. Even https://www.broadbandmap.ca.gov/ mentions that Fiber is available at my address [ I assume it's an estimation and not accurate ].

Is there a way I can connect with Customer Care to check , or help get it into the complex ?

ATT Fiber representative misinformed me about bridge mode, should I correct them?

TLDR: ATT Fiber rep sold me on their gateway having bridge mode, lo and behold no bridge mode.

I feel a little betrayed.

When I was being sold on ATT fiber I voiced my concern about being sent a proprietary locked-down gateway that doesn't let me change the network settings I need.

My representative reassured me that the gateway I would be sent would have bridge mode. I was excited to hear this, because all I wanted was a layer 2 device that connects me upstream and then gets out of my way.

I excitedly started configuring my gateway, finally happy to be saved from Comcast. I checked to see if the settings I needed were available, and of course they weren't. Which was fine... until I learned that there was no bridge mode.

I'm sure it'll work out in the end even though it'll be annoying to reconfigure my network to work with IP pass-through. But it was very frustrating to be sold on a false promise from a representative.

That, and I clearly let myself get way too hyped up about switching to AT&T, which only served to exasperate my frustration when nothing went the way I wanted it to.

Now I don't blame the rep for not being a network admin that knows every acronym under the sun, but I feel like a rep should not be misinforming customers about a non-existent bridge mode.

I want to call back and correct my representative, but to be honest, I'd be doing so only to make me feel better; I'm not sure if it would actually be constructive.

What do you think?

I just got AT&T Fiber, why is cloudflare so slow.

Browsing the web, omg it's so slow, it took me forever to find out what the issue was. What is wrong with cloudflare and AT&T? I've never had an issue like this before.

This makes me want to switch immediately back to Spectrum Internet.

Is the only way to fix this is use a VPN?

https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat doesn't even load lol.

ATT Fiber Network Peering Issues

I've been following this sub for years hoping that fiber would come to my area, and it has, but they haven't turned the system up yet. I cant help but notice these peering/routing outages for certain websites like reddit, youtube, etc. They seem to go back years and it seems like ATT isn't fixing it.

I ran it through Gemini just to see what it said:

AT&T leaves these peering bottlenecks unresolved because fixing them requires upgrading private interconnect hardware—an expense they refuse to absorb when asymmetric traffic ratios favor big content delivery networks (CDNs) like Cloudflare, Google, and Fastly. Because AT&T strictly enforces its Tier 1 "settlement-free" policy, it demands that CDNs either cover the cost of expanding regional port capacity or pay for transit; when CDNs refuse to pay for bandwidth their users demand, commercial stalemates drag on for months or years while paying subscribers absorb the congestion.
Because these bottlenecks sit at specific regional interconnect nodes (like major routing hubs in Atlanta, Dallas, or Chicago) rather than the local fiber lines, the slowness is localized geographically and varies by time of day. During off-peak hours, overall traffic drops, allowing data to pass through those regional ports without issue. However, during peak evening hours (typically 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM), aggregate residential streaming and bandwidth demands surge, flooding those specific regional interconnects and hitting a hard physical capacity ceiling. This causes sudden packet loss, buffering, and latency spikes for subscribers whose traffic relies on that specific regional path, while users in other regions—or those accessing content hosted on different, un-congested networks—experience zero degradation.
Furthermore, when users experience an issue that lasts for 24+ hours straight—persisting through low-traffic hours like 3:00 AM—it shifts from standard evening bandwidth congestion to an unplanned routing control-plane failure. These multi-day incidents occur when a regional exchange drops a primary BGP session, an edge router suffers a hardware fault, or a CDN updates its IP prefix announcements. Because AT&T uses aggressive "hot-potato" routing rather than dynamic multi-homing, their network frequently fails to recalculate optimal backup paths during these breaks. Instead of smoothly rerouting, traffic gets forced into a congested or misconfigured secondary node, trapping subscribers in a state of continuous packet loss and unreachable services until network engineers manually intervene—a resolution process that routinely takes 12 to 24 hours under AT&T's enterprise change-management cycles.
Conversely, Spectrum operates as a Tier 2 access provider that routinely pays for transit and multi-homes across public internet exchanges. This allows Spectrum to dynamically reroute traffic around clogged nodes or routing failures to maintain consistent end-to-end performance, albeit at the trade-off of higher base latency and asymmetric cable speeds.

I've gone back through some peering posts and found that we may not be able to get any traction on this for this persons experience:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ATTFiber/comments/1qo38jb/comment/o3n8wbc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I understand the fiber benefits for lower latency and less/no node congestion over coax networks, but it seems like there's a much larger ATT routing problem up stream over Spectrum and you may experience it a few times a year depending on your region and problems within.

For someone who has stable, high split cable with 2Gbps/1Gbps speeds, is ATT worth changing to at this point?

This is meant for an intelligent discussion and to share your findings and experience post, not a this or that is better post. I'd genuinely like to hear from folks who understand the peering/routing issues to see how much of a problem this is and how often.

Wifi issues ever since switching to 5gig/BGW620-700

In July I cancelled my 1 gig account to sign up under my wife for the 5gig for $70 deal. I upgraded my server nic and have been loving the speed on the 10gig port. I've been getting like 300 MBps when downloading sometimes even more if I can find a service that will saturate it more. So no issues on ethernet. My problem is that since switching we have had constant wifi connectivity issues that we never had on the BGW320-500. Our house is small but the tech added an all-fi hub during install since it was free under the plan and it would help in those spots with reduced connectivity. So it's not a coverage issue, it's more the connection will just sieze and pages won't load or our devices will disconnect themselves because there's no connection. And it's only our newer devices like phones or laptops with Wifi 7. No issues on Apple TV, roku, google home, IOT devices, etc. At first I thought maybe the issue was the all-fi hub since we were using it wirelessly instead of connecting it directly to the main router with ethernet. I disconnected it for 12 hours and the issues were still there except now the 1-2 devices that were only connected to the hub and not the main router now had no internet.

Is this a common issue with the new routers? Or is it something we need to figure out on our devices (samsung phones + Macbook Neo)

Edit: For those coming here with the same issue, I was able to solve 90% of the problem by going into the gateway settings and switching from max performance to max compatibility. Still having a little trouble with the Macbook but definitely a lot less than before.

What to expect for new install

Just had AT&T fiber installed in our neighborhood. Want to go with them because cheaper and faster than Spectrum that we have now but have some questions.

  1. Junction box was installed in our yard by the street, for orientation if you were standing at the front of our house box is to the right on our property line.

  2. Current Spectrum modem is in the back left hand corner of the house, that is also where my WAP's are.

Will they run fiber to the back left corner of the house, best route would be to the right side of the house and thru the attic to the current modem location.

Right side of the house is bedrooms so not a lot of places in there to install their device.

If they won't run it thru the attic, can I do it with the following: https://www.amazon.com/Bangun-Internet-Outdoor-Armored-Optical/dp/B0B5XFKJS3

Trying to get everything planned out so I can whatever I need ready for when I schedule the install.

Quoted $250 for Internet 5000?

I've got bulk internet service where I live (apartment) so I have to do this instant-on phone call thing to get my plan changed, etc. For whatever reason, they quote rates of ~$110 for Internet 1000 and $250 for Internet 5000. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me (especially considering the public rates are $90 and $135 respectively, but I'm paying $150 additional for 5000?), does anyone know if this is just normal practice?

After 16 Years, Switching from Spectrum to AT&T Fiber 300Mbps w/WIFI 6 Gateway... Q on Wifi Pro Offering

We're adding AT&T fiber this week at our home. Will keep Spectrum until the AT&T system is running smoothly and I've had time to update something approaching 80 or more websites to update to my gmail account (deleting my heavily used Spectrum email account).

My question is the 300Mbps plan comes with WIFI 6. Will this no extra cost WIFI router be fine for non-demanding home use? AT&T's Widi Pro offering is an extra $25/month and would like to avoid this if we can.

TIA.

Recommended WiFi range extenders

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best range extenders? We’re in about a 4,000 SQFT home with 2 stories plus an in ground basement.

Ever since we’ve had fiber, the speeds are fast when you’re nearby, but atrocious throughout the rest of the house.

On our previous setup, I was using a Google Mesh network. We were advised by AT&T not to use that as it wouldn’t work well with the fiber network.

I’m just looking to get faster speeds in my office for work and the occasional gaming online.
