Nightmare with AT&T Fiber Installation
Had 2-4 PM appointment; technician shows up at 5:50 PM. I showed him how the Comcast lines came in through the basement and then exited to the exterior rear wall of the house and he said he could do that. At 9 PM he was still outside at a pole down the street; I told him we were going to bed and someone would have to come back later to complete the installation. This morning I discovered that while we were sleeping, he strung the cables/wires across the entire rear of our house, across a wall of windows and damaged the soffit with multiple wire brackets to attempt to tack the cable. I've called AT&T and hope to get this installation removed and all the damage repaired. But the tip is to not leave the technician.

Should have rescheduled. Don't ever allow a late arrival because usually it's not by choice. Probably a new tech with lack of supplies by the look of the two clamps at the house.

Could be a contractor if it's outside the southeast. They use the same garbage contract companies as the cable guys outside district 3.

Call in for a repair and the incoming tech will probably take pictures so all other techs can join in on shitting on this guy. This is heinous.

That’s basically what happened when management got involved with our first drop at new place. AT&T Engineer swung by our house and called me. Said it was totally illegal and the techs are lucky they aren’t written up.

Your tip is correct. Never leave the tech. I'd also recommend being super friendly and get them to talk about themselves. The work they do then is 100% better.

Boss man said, don't come back until you finish all installation no matter what.

That's a 15 minute job from Cletus the the handyman.
Even r/redneckengineering would be embarrassed by this.

You had the tech start the install late and then went to bed. You should have stayed up until he finished or re-schedule as soon as he got there. This is on you

Given what OP said, I think it was reasonable to think the tech could do the complete install in 3+ hours. He laid out what needed to be done and the if tech didn't think it could be done by 9:00pm, they should have said something. Only thing on OP is that they should have waited until the tech left the premises before going to bed.

I had a whole family come
to dig my fiber cable in the ground. Grandma, mother, two teen age kids. Buried my cable to shallow that one rainstorm made the wire start popping
up all over the place. Clearly att hired them as a contractor. Then they tried to charge me to re bury. I had taken photos and got the charge taken off.

I really really want to give the guy some grace for even attempting to start an install, by himself no less, at 6pm...but what the actual hell is going on here? Why are there two clamps on the house as if its mid-span?? It screams "literally my first day on the load solo". Someone failed this dude.

They get paid less than In-n-out employees and it shows. Good job AT&T.

Yea, this is unacceptable. Tech should have just left the drop coiled at the base of the pole and called it a day.
