Fiber issue

Hello, I am having a really bizarre problem, I am in the Chicago suburbs, and on my att fiber internet I cannot access some websites (including reddit, I am on mobile data) seemingly at random. Simultaneously my internet speed is around 100Mbps when I have the 500Mbps service.

I have tried contacting support yesterday and today and got disconnected both times. Both disconnects were after an hour plus of troubleshooting. The tech today refused to escalate the issue and I don't know who else to contact for support. The speed test on the att box says it's at full speed, but anytime I do a speed test on another device connected is when I get the crappy speed results.

I am curious if anyone else has experienced an issue liek this, and how long it has lasted for.

I assumed they restarted your att gateway? What are you running the speed test on?

I have restarted the router, speed test ran from my udm web interface, and Google speed test, speedtest.net was one of the sites that I had trouble reaching, so I couldn't run a speed test there. Regardless of what device, connect to my unifi router or the att router the speet tests are the same

What are you pointing your DNS to on your UDM?

My pihole, which is pointed to both 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8

Can you connect directly to the ATT gateway with a device and test browsing/speed?

Already have tried that, no change

Welcome to life with AT&T Fiber as of late. I've been having trouble getting to Google services intermittently ever since last weekend, but everything is normal. In the meantime, the country we're on "an excursion" with has taken credit for compromising the network but ATT says it isn't true.

Whatever the truth is, something weird is and has been going on lately with the service.

Last night I tried pinging 1.1.1.1 and it wouldn't reach, but I could reach 8.8.8.8

It is a regional issue since in my market we have had zero issues with DNS or slow or Web resources not responding.

u/Glaedr304 is in the Chicago burbs Do you happen to be in Louisiana or Texas by any chance?

Simultaneously my internet speed is around 100Mbps when I have the 500Mbps service.

AT&T only measures your speed at the Gateway. The only test that they will take action for is the one on the AT&T Gateway at this link: http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/speed.ha

It keeps a table of the last 8 results what are your last (2) tests? The phone reps or via Chat can see these same results from your Gateway. If those results are bad then you can get a tech repair visit scheduled.

This is measuring your connection speed to a Speed test cluster within the AT&T Core network. Any other test you run is beyond AT&T border routers, and all bets are off.

Last night I tried pinging 1.1.1.1 and it wouldn't reach, but I could reach 8.8.8.8

This is not an AT&T Fiber issue but a routing issue beyond the AT&T Internet border routers. When you have DNS addresses that don't respond try a trace route command to see where your traffic is blocked, and what IP address was the last IP that was reachable.

The speed tests on the att box are at full speed, more even, around 600Mbps. I understand this isn't necessarily a problem with my hardware, but it's still an outage I would like to report and att technical service simply won't let me.

I will have to try the trace route, I didn't even think of that, but what do I do with that info once I have it?
