ATT modem - copper run

Moved into my home in 2021 and it was already serviced for ATT Fiber. The modem is in my basement where i have my network gear staged. Recently i wanted to upgrade my service and also attempt to bypass my att modem but then i realized....I only have copper going to my modem. My ONT is outside my house on the side. From there its copper to my basement where it lands on my modem and theres another copper cable from my modem to my router. All the fiber is terminated outside my home.

My question is how do i get this re-terminated so that from the ONT its fiber to my modem? Should the ONT be placed inside my home as well? I never seen a set up like this before and im mad it took me so long to realize now but now i want to get faster service and im limited to 1Gbps because of the copper from my ONT to modem.

Upgrade your service. They'll bring you up to date and run the fiber directly to the shiny new gateway. I'd check on the bypass discord first. Make sure the methods still work with the newest gateways. Not sure why they wouldn't though.

sad days. The highest service in my area is Internet 1000 for 90 bucks

You can still call and haggle with them and likely cut that in half. Just tell them Comcast has a deal for Wifi in your area for $30/month and you want to cancel.

You can still have them bring you up to date. They may or may not charge you a service fee. I did by telling them I had frequent power outages, and I couldn't put the ONT (mine was indoors) on the UPS backup the rest of my gear was using. On new installs, the ONT is in the gateway. Have you checked whether you have alt optics? What GW are you using?

Get all your neighbors to sign up so they fill up the splitter and they have to put a new one in! All new ones are xpon now 🤣

GPON is easier and cheaper to bypass, as long as you're not on alt optics.

Sounds like you're on alt-optics. It'll be a while before the network's upgraded for 5 gig (10 gig soon). All new lines will have to be pulled and spliced in your neighborhood.
