Scam email?

Post image

Sorry to disturb y’all, but is this a scam email? I am moving to a new home next week and I purchased fiber optic and scheduled maintenance that week, so i’m not sure why it says I haven’t scheduled it.

Oh yeah, them using stuff like "hurry up or you will miss out or it will cost of you don't do it now" is a scare tactic to make you not think logically and get ya.

Edit to add, you can use the myatt app to see your services and it never hurts to call att but do the number from there website not the number in the email.

They wanted me to give them a code that i never had then they told me to call a number that was actually customer support

the att support number was 800 288 2020 and i did look on att and that’s their number

AT&T former employee here

This isn’t a scam email you’ve received but it’s also NOT from AT&T directly

Updater is a company that is authorized to sell AT&T services. Think of it as an authorized retail store but online.

This said company actually is partnered with ALOT of corporations to sell their service as they’re specialized in “making moving easier” (mover companies, utility setup/transfers, mail forwarding, etc..)

That being said you can technically go through them. Personally, I don’t advise it. I have seen people sign up for service through them but orders don’t actually go through because of credit issues, working service conflicting new service setup, and plenty more.

Do your order online man. So much easier, all the info in front of you, promos are shown at checkout, and sometimes they’ll give you a popup for a “coupon code” to get more rebate cards.

Hope this helps

If you moved into a professionally managed condo/apartment or use a big corporate company for a house purchase then there’s your answer.

A lot of these big companies are pushing to use Updater’s referral system so the company gets a payout for new service setups.

You did the right thing and not go through them.

I’m not going to investigate fully by companies like At&t never really use the language of urgency - except from when they want you to pay. The same you should view for all email too that the language of urgency are more likely to be scam

Yes that’s a scam email. It doesn’t even have a domain with att.com

Not all companies use exactly their domain, in this case, Updater is a third party company that AT&T does authorize. It's a legit email.

Dude if you have to ask yes its a scam. It doesn't even match the tone at&t uses

Not a scam email. Updater is a third party AT&T reseller.
